Upgrade times?
Aloha from Southern California,
Can anybody give me an idea of current upgrade times at Hawaiian?
Also, is there a seat lock when you are assigned an aircraft as a new hire?
I was just at the Women in Aviation conference in Long Beach and really enjoyed speaking with the Hawaiian representative that was there. She was super friendly and knowledgable. Unfortunately I forgot to ask these questions when I had the opportunity.
Looking forward to next open application window.

Thanks for the quick response.
I have a couple more questions if you don't mind.
Once you hold a line on the 717, what does a "typical" schedule look like? Can you string 4 or 5 days off in a row? (same question for the 321)
How long to hold a line in the 717 and 321?
Thanks in advance for the replies!

(same question for the 321)Seems like as a junior person you'll do Fri-Sun and a day or so of weekday flying. Seems like the average for lineholder is 15-17 days off depending on how much credit you want per day. 4-5 days off is very possible and pretty typical on all of our fleets. If it is for commuting reasons, most block their flying together in larger chunks. Obviously the more senior you get the easier.
How long to hold a line in the 717 and 321?I know new hires getting lines a month or two out of class. Doesn't make them a line holder per se. Enough pilots bid reserve to make it possible for junior ones to eek out a line occasionally.

321 is holding at 6.5-7 yrs roughly. Currently everyone (NEO) is on seat lock and retirements are low so movement to the 330 is also slow.
All that being said, the 787 bid will be out shortly, that plus increasing retirements in 2020, and NEO seat locks expiring could produce lower upgrade times.. Bypass to the left seat of 717 is pretty high historically so 2-3 years seems possible.
For NEO I'd bet it stays no less the 7-8 yr range for the foreseeable future. There are quite a few bypasses to left seat of the NEO also. (the schedule and flying is just too good on 330 for many to go back to nothing but 2 day west coast trips IMO.

Thanks again for the responses. I really do appreciate it. I would love a shot at flying for Hawaiian....I made a point to go to the last two "major" aviation conferences just so I could speak with your reps and hand in a resume. I may even be able to stop by the corporate offices in the next month or so (I heard it could help and the offer was extended by HR.)

Just to embellish on you question earlier.
NEO still at 6.5-7 yrs. Had some senior guys, that prb could be 330 CPTS, bid NEO
717 had some upgrade/transitions that were more senior.. most junior person awarded this vacancy is probably in year 8. So no 3 yr upgrades this time around.
There was zero movement on 330.
Most new hire openings for 717 and maybe 1 NEO I believe.

Not sure if I mentioned it before (haha) but.....Hawaiian is where I really want to be. Having said that, I'm seriously considering flying out to HNL to speak with someone in the corporate offices. I was sent an email with the offer to "stop by" anytime I am at HNL. For all I know it was a generic email sent to lots of people but I jumped on it. I wrote an email back expressing interest and got a contact name and number to arrange the meeting.
My question is this. Do you think I can make any real headway into getting an interview with this visit? It's not a cheap thing to do but would be worth it if it helped me stand out from the crowd.
Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t know if a meet and greet will help you get an interview, as HR selects the interviewees. But assuming that you have the competitive qualifications to get an interview, it couldn’t hurt to meet with someone in Flight Division, as they might be on your interview panel.

They went to wherever their seniority could hold. It was a displacement, so they could bump out anyone junior. Seniors went predominantly to the 330.
