Default Coronavirus

If Japan cancels the olympics or HAL even temporarily halts flying to Japan, can they survive? They seem at high exposure.

Yes, HAL will be fine. The Japanese market is mostly Japanese people... and they will still want to come here.

No cases of Coronavirus have been reported in Hawaii.... because there is no ability to test for it here. It is very possible that it is already well established in the islands but mixed in with the normal colds and flus and “flying under the radar”.

No testing = no confirmed cases.
No confirmed cases = tourism is still open for business.

On the hand HAL did shut down flights to Korea for the coming month.

Very in the know sources tell me Hawaiians 90 yr. history and survival is based on the 2020 Olympics. That two week athletic event has been the cornerstone of our business plan for the last 15 yrs. I've heard, from the most reliable sources, we have always planned on shutting down immediately after the closing ceremony.

Although I guess being denied antitrust immunity for the JAL joint-venture and therefore not throwing a bunch of additional eggs in that basket was a blessing in disguise.

Continued decreased demand would lead to inevitable furloughs. I’m confident another airline would buy us before doors are shut, but then again I pray every day (twice on Sunday’s and Feb 29) for another airline to buy us (not southwest).

No hard feelings, but we feel the same as you do.

From what I've heard, Dunkerley turned down a Delta buyout nine times. Maybe the current CEO will be more open to it.

So lets say Delta bought HAL. Assuming there was seniority list integration like NWA (not staple-and-flush like if American was the buyer). When the fences came down, where do you think HNL would sit seniority wise as a base compared to let’s say SEA or LAX?

Would Delta’s interest in HAL be different now considering they no longer have an inter island monopoly?
