[QUOTE=kingairfun;2675277]I am in no way part of hiring etc... but I'm pretty sure they usually open one window, get a few hundred apps, interview roughly 200 and hire roughly 100...atleast that was the way it seemed they did it in past growth spurts[/QUOTE

Sounds like 10 or so classs in 2019

Hawaiian is a special place. There will always be Hawaii kids that want to come back home and make a career out of Hawaiian. Hawaiian isn't hiring a 1000+ a year like the other majors. There will always be a couple people leaving, but will be easily filled with someone waiting in line.

Yes, first year pay is ridiculously low, it is embarrassing and it needs to change. Having said that, a 20 year career at Hawaiian is worth around $5,000,000.00 vs around $2,000,000.00 at a regional(7 years A321 FO, 5 years A321 captain, 12 years widebody captain, vs regional captains pay for 20 years, and yes, I am just guessing about the upgrade time). Doubling first year pay would give you 1% extra, is that really worth even considering?

No, but I have been. I had to take a pay cut twice to start over because the company was going under. First time from $80K down to $35K in 2005, and again in 2013 from $100K to $40K. It sucks, and it is wrong, and it would have been really nice if I could have said " I'm not taking the job unless you double first year pay", but you know what, I wouldn't have gotten the job.
Not taking a job based on first year pay is stupid if you are planning to stay for more than a year. I can't believe the union is still sticking to their "it is up to the company to change first year pay". If the union wanted to they could change it tomorrow, but all of us would need to agree to lower rates to pay for it. It would get my vote, but not sure if it would pass...

From what I understand, mainland 121 is critical to getting on with Hawaiian. How does mainland 135 and island 121 look in comparison?

Currently sitting at 2500 hours at a 135 op on the mainland with my sights set on HA. Considering jumping to Ohana (Empire) for the guaranteed interview or to a 121 regional or ULCC for that sweet sweet mainland 121 time. Can anyone speak to which would be more beneficial for a prospective applicant?

Compass or Skywest seem to be a good choice based on recent hiring.

It's a mixed bag, but most come from those regionals. A few from ohana/empire but since you have more time who knows. Definitely shows you want to come to Hawaii tho

Vacancy closed today... Should know more about what will be available for new hires by the end of the week.

We definitely have a large presence from Compass/Sky West over the last couple years. Could be because that seems to be where the local pilots go to for 121 time and also stay somewhat close to home.

Default Second year pay?

I was curious what the annual pay is for a current second year pilot? 100,000-120,000?
Sorry for asking this question, but haven't flown 121 for awhile and would like to know gross income for the year. a ball park figure.
