Interesting article - Europe?A380?
|
Europe - possibly. 380s - absolutely not. I think Europe is at the far edge of the 330NEOs range so unless management is okay with fuel stops happening on half of the westbound flights, it will have to wait for a different plane to arrive on the property. And the 380 was only mentioned because Singapore is going to start returning their early planes when the leases end and someone wondered where they would go. They're too big & expensive for Hawaiian. If they took a pass on the 350 earlier, there's no way the airline will say yes to the 380.

Hawaiian will demand a small version of the 330 NEO and Airbus won't build it.
Just like the 350, a lot of talk, but no action. |
Well.....
It would sure make money on the Narita or Las Vegas runs, no question there. Probably cheap as hell, too. Get a good deal on a few beat-up A380s as compensation for getting jigged out of both the 350 and the 330NEO 800 models when Airbus backs out of both. AB did bring a demo 380 by a few years back. Some of our management pilots got to go out and fly around in it, sounded like they had a blast. That was obviously just a demo, no overture towards sale. I mean, where the hell would we park it? There is only 1 or maybe 2 gates at HNL that could even handle the plane, and the 2 adjacent gates are useless while it is parked there (QANTAS diverted theirs here a couple times for medicals). There NOWHERE to park the damn thing overnight, either. A man can dream. |
The CEO sounds like a Brit trying desperately to connect the islands to his homeland. Even if it doesn't make sense.

Shiny jet propaganda while we're in contract talks. Probably hopes the talk will entice qualified pilots to apply. Look.. bigger jets are coming. Yeah... I've heard that one before.

They're going to need way more wiki wiki shuttles:rolleyes:
