TOTD threat keeps bumping back to latest page
Ok so on the TOTD thread lets say you are on page 1047 out of 1052. If you click last page or try to click on a number ahead of the page you are on, the site will auto redirect you back to the first page you landed on when you clicked on the TOTD thread. Even manually forcing the page through the URL bar doesnt fix the issue. Please look into this.

This is true for all the long threads, and has been the case since I became a member. Systemic problem.

I think I read a response to this issue from a Mod a few years ago. IIRC, there are posts the Mods have hidden from public view for whatever reason and they're pushed to the end of the thread, sometimes pages of them. Maybe offensive or outside the rules. The posts are on the threads, but we can't see them. I don't know why they keep them, maybe to build a case to ban offenders, but that's the explanation I remember.

After looking at some of the other “usual suspects” the last few months, it looks like they are going to the last page. So Tom, you are likely correct. If TOTD can be cleaned up, that would be good.

Totd is still doing this. If what you all said is correct, does that mean that page 1071 is truly the most up to date page? I’m getting dangerously close to throwing my phone against the wall out of frustration.

If it helps, I show the most recent post is #10,711 and the last page is 1072. (10 PM central)

Thank you both for saving my cell phone...because it was expensive. |
It's been a few years since I tried to explain this phenomenon. I hope I can be equally eloquent this time around.
In very big threads like TOTD or that DAL Latest and Greatest Mother of All Threads, posts that are deleted either by the poster or a Mod will keep its physical place in the thread, but will not be visible to anyone but the Mods. The page numbers, however, continue to increase because the posts are literally still there. So when you get to the latest post, it probably is not on the last page. Clear as mud, eh? If you need more information, just send me a PM. And Counsel, you do not need to write me a brief. :) |
