Opting-out of APC mobile view?
I use an iPhone to access APC. Lately the site keeps bringing me back to the mobile view even when I click on View Full Site at the bottom of the screen. It usually takes several attempts before I get the full view. Deleting history, cookies, etc. doesn't make any difference.
Is there a way to permanently opt-out of the mobile view? It's awful and I think government's "affordable" care website is more user friendly than the mobile version of APC. So is there a way to once and for all opt-out of the mobile version of APC? Thanks |
Agreed... The mobile view just started popping up on my iPhone a few days ago... Can't stand it!
Its missing some pretty key features (the ability to skip to last page of a thread for instance). It has made JC a far more user friendly site! |
I agree as well.
It keeps forcing me into the mobile site on my tablet. I hate that format. I can't get to the full site by clicking on "view full site" either. It just refreshes right back to the mobile site. Please fix that..... |
Hi there,
Thanks for your reports and feedback. I am not sure why clicking "full site" isn't taking you to the full site right away, but I will have the techs look into that. As for the functionality of the mobile site, I will see if there is anything we can do to improve it. What else would you like to see in the mobile version besides the ability to skip to the last page? :) |

If I was going blind and needed a MUCH bigger font then maybe I'd consider it but for now I want to browse the apc site just the way I do it on my desktop. iPads, iPhones and other smart devices have much larger screens now than they used to. Almost all websites have a desktop view option and I'd like to keep it that way. Thanks. |

Thanks for your reply but what makes you think we even want a mobile version? With all due respect, shouldn't we have an option? If I want a mobile experience I'll get the APC app.

Mobile view...
.
I'd still like a permanent opt-out option for those of us who use mobile devices and don't like the mobile view. Today I've been trying to reply to a thread and include an image within the reply, something I did as recently as a few days ago. However, each time I try it Safari simply shuts down and reroutes me to the mobile site asking for me to sign in again!? Over and over again?!! The continuous tweaks to the mobile site always mess things up. ...and when posting from overseas and/or areas with slow wi-fi, the extra time needed when switching from the default mobile view to the desktop version is VERY frustrating. Give us a choice! Mine is - I don't want the mobile view! |
Lately even if you select the desktop version you still have to be able to close the blocking advertisement box which is right in the middle of the screen.. The little-bitty X which closes the ad is so tiny it took me 7 times to finally close it (ie opened the silly commercial 7 times).
I know that you are trying to force us to use the mobile version of your site but all this is doing is creating resentment toward apc.. I don't like your mobile site and wish I didn't have to pass the latest "close this advertisement window - if you can" test. I'm sure there are others who prefer to use the desktop site on their mobile devices. Please stop making it harder for us. |

Can you recall the name of the company listed on the ad? |
I actually prefer the mobile app on my iphone, and my friend is interested in downloading it, but can't seem to find it in the App Store. What is the name/is it called again. What should I search for in the App Store.
Thanks. |

The constant refresh to the mobile site is becoming quite cumbersome. Not sure why it all the sudden started, but is there a way to change it back?
iOS9 has helped a bit, but it's still not a user-friendly experience. |

This is the first I am hearing about this.
Can you tell me what specific device and what browser you're using? It also happens during refreshing of the site, after a period of time, the site automatically reverts to the mobile site. |

I'm using an iPhone 5S and iOS9. When I switch to another app or use another window for Safari, after a certain period of inactivity, the APC site defaults to the mobile version of the site. I can request the desktop version, but this becomes more of a PITA.

I'm pretty sure the mobile site is banned according to the Geneva convention... It it ain't then it should be! Sorry about the sarcasm but I don't see any advantages whatsoever to the mobile site. I REALLY don't like it and wish it just went away.. |
I don't like the mobile version at all either. I like the ease of selecting going to the last post from the desktop version much better.
|
Andriod tablet, Firefox browser, Phony plugin. Set user agent to "desktop firefox" in the phony plugin.
Mobile site gone permanently. I don't do IOS so ymmv on Ipad. I see the benefit to the mobile site on a phone, but not on a tablet. Is there an ability to differentiate phone vs tablet on the site side? |

Is there an ability to differentiate phone vs tablet on the site side? ..and exactly what benefit do you see when using mobile site on an iPhone?? I see NONE!! What's worst, here's a comment from Brandinett (support) I found under a thread named "Tapatalk." ...The mobile version will hopefully be the primary way to interact with APC in the future but we'd like to give you all the options we can to access the site. Primary way?? Now, that's a scary thought!! :( |
Agreed, the lack of an "open at first new post" option in the mobile site makes it entirely worthless.
|
Here's another vote for how awful the mobile site is. It needs to be sacked.

Another change for the worst!
When opting out of the awful mobile site you always end up with an ad right in the middle of the iPhone/iPad screen.
In the past you could click anywhere outside the ad area to close it. No more! Now you must click on the tiny X in the upper, right corner to close the annoying advertisement box. :( I guess that's yet another punishments for not using the mobile site... |
Thanks
Thanks All,
I have read the thread, and I'll think about this. Give me a couple of weeks and I'll get back to you, there currently are a few open issues w/ the site that are taking priority (including a few extra ads coming up for logged in users...bear w/ us) That being said: a) on your tablet, you should be seeing the desktop version, by default b) the mobile version of the site has been revamped quite a bit in the past few months, give it a try and let me know I'll look into the other options, thanks All for sharing! We have been doing quite a bit of work on the site in the past 6-12 months. Do you see that the overall direction that we have been taking (and granted, we had to take a few steps back) has provided a much better and faster site? I see a few posts dating back to 2015... that was a long time ago. Thanks All for the feedback. Nick |
You can hold down the reload site icon at the upper right corner on safari iPhone; then hit "request full site reload."
"It works when I do it." |
Just a heads up - today there was a ‘survey’ asking me which device I was using and which device I normally use when accessing APC? I answered truthfully that I typically use an iPhone (“mobile device”).
APC better keep my ability to read these threads in a full-desktop view, even when using an iPhone. The mobile version still sucks and I’ll never use it. If it becomes my only option I’ll quit APC altogether.. |

I confirm that users will always be able to see the desktop version of the forums on their mobile, we have no plans of removing that functionality. Thank you so much for participating in the survey, and for your feedback. Hope this helps, let me know. Nick |

Today I tried to log in on my iPhone and then switch to the desktop versions. Each time I tried I was taken back to the mobile site. I finally was able to switch by clicking on a help forum I’ve previously participated in (this one). Only then was I able to switch to the desktop site.
I wish you’d abandon the dreadful mobile view altogether or let us permanently opt out of it.. :(

I have the opposite problem. I usually use the mobile view to read posts and switched to full mode to mark all read, and now I can't switch back! How do I switch back to mobile view?

Mobile view still sucks BUT now you’re being “encouraged” or voluntold to use the mobile site because otherwise you’ll be taken to the username sign-in EVERY single time! you click on a new thread, reply or comment.

Desktop view
I created this thread 6 years ago when APC began to slowly dismantle, or at the very least to impede, the desktop view of Airline Pilot Forums.
The latest changes have made things even worst. In the past when using the desktop view (my preference) I was always able to browse different threads without having to sign in. If I wanted to post I’d sign in, otherwise I was able to browse the different threads without having to sign in. It made the process much faster. Now however, each time you refresh the page the curser takes you to the username sign-in. Sign in or else! Every single time. This has pretty much destroyed the desktop view. Despite the promises given in the past that desktop view would NOT go away.. They’re correct per se, it didn’t go away. They just made sure using it as painful as possible. |

Try clearing all cookies which contain airlinepilotforums or airlinepilotcentral Also if you have multiple user accounts (you're not supposed to) that will create login problems too. |

It does not do that for me  It keeps me logged in for 6 months, and admins and mods have an additional MFA layer.

Well, you said it keeps you logged in for 6 months. That was my point, in the past if wanted to browse only I didn’t have to log in at all, just browse new threads. Now I must log in just to view them. Otherwise each click takes me to the log in. |
