Southwest hiring update

Southwest will be interviewing pilots in October, but there will be no new-hire classes that month.

Between Nov. 1 and the end of the year there will be another 2-3 classes, bringing the total hired in 2005 to about 420. Forecasting need for 500 pilots in 2006, with interviews picking up in January.

I heard they had a few more classes going than that. Oh well, I think 2006 should kick up hiring a notch.

Perhaps the Boeing strike delayed aircraft deliveries and the ability to redeploy aircraft no longer needed in New Orleans after Katrina affected hiring.

The latest from a guy returning from training two days ago said that he was told there will be 3 classes in Nov., 2 in Dec., 2 in Jan.
