Best Place to Hang Until Recalled?
Tossing around various employment options as I slide toward the door at my carrier. The real question is whether (at 46 with 8 yrs seniority) chuck my seniority number and look for a solid replacement or find something acceptable until I'm recalled?
Under the latter I get the impression fractionals, overseas contract, and many of the smaller 121 supplemental freight and charter outfits do not require you to resign seniority. Guessing (for now) several years on the street, and hoping it will be worth coming back to. Any inputs on places that are furloughed pilot friendly and those to avoid are most welcome. |
Avoid CAL and EVA.
As I said in the other thread, you would probably do best at Cathay or the Japanese contracts. 17 day day trips with Atlas where you get yourself to Stansted doesn't sound like much fun to me, but a lot of people seem to be going there. If you can find a supplemental carrier with growth potential and a relatively quick upgrade that would be okay. The PIC time is what opens the door to better jobs. Current and qualified on 747-400, 777, A330, and A340 will be the best position to be in going forward. That's tough to get but those are the cherry overseas jobs. Some A320 or 737NG jobs are okay as well. Stay away from 737-200, 727, DC-8, DC-10, etc jobs as there is no future unless the carrier is going to re-equip. Corporate jobs might be a good place to go. They are all individual, but the right one might suit you. A friend of mine in Charlotte flys for one of the race teams and he says it's the best job he's ever had. You just have to start, throw your line in and see what kind of hits you get. You may not get much right away, it will take some time to make the contacts and ge the offers. A year isn't uncommon so get to work now. TP |
I feel your pain man!

The only difference is, that I am 42 with 9 years seniority. Who do you work for NWA, DAL, AA or one of the many others? E-mail me and we can exchange info on leads if you like. Good Luck in your job search. |
Go back to school. Learn something useful.
