New UAL Pilot Application Process

UAL is expected to begin taking electronic pilot applications in the very near future.

To access the application, go to http://www.united.com/pilot . When the application window opens, plan on about 1 hour to complete the on-line portion of the application. It's suggested that you print and read the instructions prior to starting the online process.

The minimums for applying are:

1500 hours Total Time - Fixed Wing.
1000 hours Multi-engine time (PIC) or Military fighter/trainer (PIC).
500 hours Turbine Time.
100 hours flown in the past year (Recency of experience).
Current FCC license.
Current valid passport.
Current First Class Medical.
Current ATP Certificate with Multi-engine land rating (AMEL).
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Legal right to work in the United States.
A college degree from an accredited school is preferred

The application/interview process will involve a series of online screening tests, a phone interview to verify qualifications, a personal interview conducted in Chicago with a UAL interview Captain and HR representative. Applicants will be scored on their performance in the interview process, and then UAL will then conduct a final screening board to determine the final selection.

Reports to APC indicate about 100 new hires this year and 300 next year. Changes to the manditory retirement age could revise next year's pilot requirements.

United pilots can recomend applicants and should refer to the UAL flight operations computer network for details.

Is the ability to carry a picket sign a requirement?

I wonder why a third of the furloughed pilots opted not to return, and others are resigning from UAL?

Looks like UAL opened the application process today to a collective yawn.

Wonder if the gestapo is going to be doing interviews again?

My mom was a flight attendant for UAL in the late 60's and my dad was a ORD ground crew tech. That's how they met. I wasn't sure I would fly as a commercial pilot, but if I did I wanted to fly for United. They weren't hiring 3 years ago when I was looking for a job, but I would have applied. I know some great pilots working for United. I tend to like to think that United will be back on track to being the great airline they have always been. I have hope.
