Singapore hiring Captains
We don't have the full pay scales yet, therefore no dedicated page for Singapore - although they are hiring CAPTAINS. A recent email from one of our sources gives an accurate profile for expat. compensation.
There is mention of F/O positions on the SIN web site, although we have no details on expat. hiring for those positions. Our sources tell us that SIN only hires expat. Captains. More details here: SIN flight crew hiring "...[a recent new hire] only had an Airbus 320 rating, they accepted him on the 777...Normally, 2000 hours of wide body captain was the minimum. They don't hire copilots. Singapore Cargo does but I would not recommend that job to anyone. SIA contracts are really different. I'll just give the ex-pat version since your readers will fall into that category. These are all in Sing dollars, about 1.6 these days. I am using a 75 hour month which is about right. 777 captain monthly Base Pay: 9300. Plus a variable component 750. Plus 1000 ex-pat bonus. May or may not hold with the new contract. Variable component is a complex formula that has been forced on all Singapore by the gov't. If the company makes money, the 16.5% they withheld, comes all back. One as a monthly component and then a separate annual component. 750x12. In Flight Allowance: productivity pay 82.50/hr x 75= 6187.50 Meal allowance: average 2000 So total base before allowances: 19237.50 Allowances: housing 3100; education 700/child Retirement bonus: 50,000 (5 yr. contract) Annual bonus: 3 months base pay 27900 Company paid loss of license=300,000 (60K/yr) Free medical. Co-pay after a minimum number of doc visits. Small co-pay for hospitalization, etc. Can purchase inexpensive family insurance and add-on insurance to basic company hospitalization. Total monthly with two kids: 23728.50. Might be a bit on the high side. Say 22,000/mo which includes all allowances. Taxes are 18-20%. No withholding. Gov't just sends a bill. For US citizens the first 80,000 is not declared as US income. Also any foreign tax paid can be used to offset the total US tax bill. So, say 22,000/mo x 12 mos= 264000. Plus the annual variable is 9000. Plus the 3 mos. bonus 27,900. Annual total= 300,900. Plus the retirement bonus of 50,000 at the end of the contract. Cost of living: nice 3 bdrm condo 3000/mo. Schools at 1500/mo per kid private school. Food and utilities are cheap, cars are outrageously expensive. Don't need one unless you are a xenophobe. In that case, don't come out here!..." |

While on the topic. Will they hire “over 60” types? |
Don't shoot the messenger :p
I guess I should have omitted that part of the message, although having ridden many trains and subways throughout Asia, I think I know what he's talking about. But then again, most public transportation around the world smells like that. As a follow up, I asked if there were longevity increases, here's the reply: "...there are no longevity increases for ex-pat contracts. They are five year and 3 year fixed deals..." Cheers - |

Anyway .. my real question was . .since they are flying mainly into countries that don’t have the discriminatory practice of “Age 60” . . will they hire Captains over 60? |

xe·no·phobe: one unduly fearful of what is foreign and especially of people of foreign origin. |

SIA Cargo is also hiring on the 744F. Check out http://www.siacargo.com/First%20Offi...0positions.pdf.
Neither the 777 or the 744 will take over 60. |
