Banner towing to build hours

I can't find anything, can you?
Contrail06,
I read the entire FAR 119.1 after reading your first post. I can't find anything that said an instructor's sign off is required for banner towing. Banner towing was simply listed as one of the commercial operations that you can operate without a 135 or 121 certificate.
If I am incorrect, could you please tell me exactly where it says an FAA sign off is required for banner towing? I had been informed by my banner towing friends that there is no required sign off to tow banners.

No pilot of a civil aircraft may tow anything with that aircraft (other than under §91.309) except in accordance with the terms of a certificate of waiver issued by the Administrator
Im sorry I put down 119.1..thats just what I had in my head. However this is where it mentions the waiver. Just to save you the time 91.309 refers to gliders and ultralights. Hope this helps and sorry again for the wild goose chase.

Scam!!!!!!!!
Aerial messages took me for several thousand dollars and lied to me. I should have slashed his tires and killed his dog. The guy is a thief and a lier. I got 7.5 hours for my sign off and worked like a slave putting their banners together. About the job he promised it never happened and other banner places want tailwheel time. Go to free spirit aviation in NC to learn how to tow a banner cheap but it will not do you any good unless you have tailwheel time.

I'll agree that it's a scam. I got taken and I've talked to 4 or 5 other people who got screwed as well from the same guy (name sounds like Jim Bacini). T.P. and his wife are both scum. He told me I could expect anywhere from 80-140 hours/month and promised me I'd be flying within 2 weeks of starting his course. He said he had multiple airplanes and was hurting for pilots to get all the flying done. It was all a lie. Check out the Better Business Bureau or even do a search on some other forums. He's had numerous lawsuits against him and one of the guys I've talked to won the lawsuit but has yet to see any money. Don't know how he's still in business. There used to be a website out there about him, don't know if it's still up. Regionals are hiring at crazy low hours right now. It won't take long to get the 500 or 600 TT needed at many of them, or even the 1000 TT at others. Just a couple extra months of instructing and gaining some very valuable time. I found another job the day after I finished with his "course" and 3 months later was working for a good regional. And if you think your students scare you, wait till you see his airplane. I read these boards every once in a while but haven't felt the need to register or post anything until today. Stay away from him. He preys on young, low time, ambitious, often ignorant pilots who are looking for an easy way to get some time. Don't fall for it.
