looking for contract flying in Iraq/Afghanistan

Hey guys/gals,

I'm looking for some contract flying in Afghanistan and/or Iraq. specifically King Air 200's I saw when I was there a couple years ago. Currently a regional F/O and in the military and looking at contract options. gotta pay bills. PM me if you have any info.

You might try Dyncorp. They do lots of King Air work for the government.

I think there is company by the name of Jordon Scientific?...I did a search on google but can't find anything now.

Dynamic Aviation

Gray Aviation

PM me if you want.

Do most of these outfits want ex-mil folks or can us civi slugs get picked up by them.

I heard at one point that Dyncorp was flying turbine thrushes in columbia spraying "crops" I don't now if they are still in that game or not. I would guess that the risk factor is a bit elevated for that job. Sounds kinda cool though, in a sick sort of way.

I saw an flying IA billet about 45-60 days ago from a unit in Iraq flying Super King Airs -- looking for a year boots on ground. The unit is a joint (Navy/AF) deal training the Iraqi AF pilots. Its basically a RAG/FRS/RTU (depending what mil language you speak) instructor job. I think I deleted the email, but will try to see what I can find. Kind of interesting. One way to get some "green ink" in your logbook in a King Air...

Most of these jobs want prior military with a current secret or better clearance. Gray Aviation only hires people with personal recs from someone already working there.

zondaracer 06-09-2008 04:33 PM

I know of a Lockheed Martin subsidiary that does some work in modified King Airs, and i asked what the possibility to fly for them if not military trained. They had 13 pilots, 11 were prior military aviators, one was prior military enlisted with civilian flight rating, and the last one was straightup civilian but had gobs of ours and a TR on 747. Some of these contractor companies are pretty hard to get into without a military backgound, but not impossible.

I'm currently an enlisted crew chief (A-10) with a job as a regional airline pilot sitting right seat....if that helps?

I've got a good friend over there flying KA-90s (U-21 to be exact) for Dynamic Aviation. I think it's a 90 on 90 off rotation. He was not prior military, and had only a few hundred KA hours when they hired him. They take care of all the background/security checks once you are in.

I don't have enough posts to PM or I'd give you his e-mail address. Guess I better get busy posting...

Cheers

Dyn is a good start..most of their flying is in support of the INL. You will have to get hired through usajobs.com, under Department of State postings.

BW, LMCO, etc..they all have operations going on there.

Good luck.

thanks for the heads up

D15C1PLE 07-11-2008 05:31 PM

Just sitting around thinking of years past...look at the UN for some flying gig's as well...

SuperPilotJesse 07-14-2008 04:19 PM

What chance does a guy with around 1k hrs. who has been furloughed have of getting one of these jobs?

UN? Where would I search for something like that?

HercDriver130 07-15-2008 05:24 PM

for a blackwater job you better have prior military... mostly SOF types......

I was looking at Dyncorp's website and the link for pilots to send in their resume'. They also want you to submit your salary expectations. Does anyone have any clue as to a reasonable amount to request!

Are you affiliated with this organization? The work looks very interesting. They say the pay is commensurate with other similar organizations. Kind of vague though. Do you have any further information? Do they work on a 30 on/30 off schedule or more? Aircraft fleet? Etc....

I haven't ever worked for Air Serv, but was turned off to them after the scary stuff I read about them on pprune.org. I think currently they're operating in Iraq, Afghanistan, and some places in Africa. Here is a blog of a guy that spent a year working for them in Chad. It's pretty entertaining.

Avenge Air(sp?) out of Hagerstown, MD has some Dash 8 and KA 200 contracts over there! That's all I know of the operation.

500-1000 per day (travel days to and from included) depending on your experience.

Bobs98tlr 09-01-2008 02:24 PM

Whats it take to get on with Dyncorp? Just looking for a way to apply.

Fugazi 09-05-2008 07:31 AM

A very civilian friend of mine assembles office furniture, cubicles and does light construction and painting in the green zone of bagdad and other high security locales around the world. He always makes $1000 per day and is gone for 1 to 3 months at a time and then has about the same amount of time off. He was able to land the job due to family in the pentagon.

I would not consider doing aviation in the fertile crescent for anything less.
