Seattle area flying?
Just a shot in the dark but is anyone aware of any flying jobs in the Seattle-Tacoma area? Primarily looking for 91 corporate but 135 is great too. Any info is appreciated!
Thanks in advance! |
I do not know if they are hiring, but here is a list of FBOs and such in the Seattle area and beyond. Hope this helps.

Thanks... maybe I'll find something in there.

Air Pac is a p.135 cargo operation based in boeing field. They required 135 mins of course but it seems like they are always hiring. They have a few different planes, from piper chieftains to senecas.

I had 1200 hours and 125 multi one spring and they were encouraging me to keep at it. So, I went to Alaska for 6 months and returned with 1800 hours total an ATP and 500 hours of multi engine and then they suddenly would not talk to me anymore. Skyhigh |
Thanks for the info... I appreciate any and all ideas.

Air Pac did not use to like to hire pilots with too much experience. 1200 total with 200 multi was the sweet spot with them. 1500 and 400 multi and you were out of the running.

Why would this be? Perhaps because they were operating on a small profit margin and were using timebuilders exclusively. Otherwise why would they be afraid their pilots would jump ship when they get so few extra hours. Not saying it wasn't so, just a curious operating model. You would think it to be cheaper to train a small, reliable, long term core of pilots and to keep them over the years rather than pay higher insurance rates and train all the time.
Then the industry began to pick up and pilots were not staying very long. Just a year ago I heard that Air Pac had a 6 month training contract. As such it is better to hire guys who fit the window than to spent a month training them only to have them leave a few weeks later. Most companies have a similar window. After I was laid off I tried to get hired at several smaller cargo outfits and was told that I was "Over Qualified". They didn't want to hire a 757 guy and be used as a paycheck till I moved on. I just wanted a job. SkyHigh |
Get the low-timers, train them and expect them to move on quickly is pretty much the business model of most flight schools. I've known folks who had 800+ hours and were CFI/CFIIs and were denied jobs at flight schools because they "would leave for the regional" too soon. And if you say 'I don't plan on doing that' the person doing the hiring replies "I've heard that before."
I suspect that the freight folks hear the same thing. |
