Thanks SKE. I'm not sure if I'm qualified for that particular position as it seems to deal more with the engineering side of the operations. With the current conditions - I'm starting to look at other possibilities and I appreciate your input. Please keep me in mind if you come across other opportunities in the future.

There is another thread on this somewhere...

Anyway, I just got back from my first deployment with Insitu. Executive summary is 90 days on/90 days off. $102K/year for six months work. Up to about $260K/yr if you do a full year in Iraq or Afghanistan. Not flying, but good money.

We were just bought out by Boeing. They have openings as well, but I don't know their pay scale. A company called ISR also uses our products. I don't have any detail on employment.

We need to go from 100 FSRs to 300 by the end of the year just to cover current contracts, so we are growing fast. Now is an excellent time to get in.

Let me know if have any other questions.

How do you get a security clearance? Is it something you do on your own? Any help would be appreciated as I apparently will need one.

Default Fly Predator

Hey,

If you want to fly Predator as a civilian you need to go to General Atomics Aeronautical Systems. They are the manufacture of the airframe and also provide support both conus and oconus. I have been in the UAV field for right around 10yrs and I worked for General Atomics for several of those years.

While they do like you to have a clearance when you come on board they will process you from scratch if you don't have one. You will also have be commercial rated at a minimum.

They tend to hire in spurts. They also have a very large attrition rate in the Pilot training program. A lot of guys have problems transitioning to a 2 dimensional view of the word and no "seat of the pants" feeling.

Good Luck- Below is a link to their job search site and a posting for a Pred Pilot
