Jobs are out there
Hang in there everyone their are still some jobs out there. I have finally been picked up after serving in the instructors world for a bit over 800 hours. I was hired today for a 135 outfit and will be heading to Savannah soon for my Gulfstream G1 type rating. (company paid :D)
Some advice: Keep applying! This was the 3rd application with this company this year. I applied even when they had nothing posted. Leave no stones unturned, especially in this economy. Get times up to 135 minimums or ATP minimums. Try some work in areas within the industry that is not related to flying. The DO at this company was impressed that I did my college internship with Evergreen Helicopters even though I was a fixed wing pilot. (Probably had nothing to do with the Bell Jet Ranger sitting outside his office) ;) Times are tough but hang in there and just keep plugging away. Good luck everyone. |
Good job eersfan. Congrats on the job. Enjoy Savannah too - I'm had some good times there!

That's cool, I was there in 2005 and worked under David Rath and Grayson Barrows (now in TX with another outfit).
Did you live in Mr. Smith's house in his vineyard? |
You're gonna enjoy Savannah and Flight Safety International. 1st class act all the way. I went through the GIII & GV courses. Did both pilot and maintenance courses there.
Congrats with the new job! :) |
CJ is that you?

Congrats with the new job! :) Thanks. Looking forward to hitting the fire hose and drinking in as much as I can. I was fortunate enough for my CP to let me borrow all his G1 books in advance of the course to try and get familiar before I get there. 17 days to prep so I hope I will be in good shape. I am going to try and keep a journal of the whole experience and post it to give other guys trying to prep for the piston-turbine transition a heads up on what it is like. |
Congrats on the job. If you don't mind me asking what kind of times do you have?

eersfanpilot,
Don't kill yourself trying to teach yourself the systems. Let them teach you that stuff. All I would suggest is knowing your limitations and memory items cold. That's it. (Because that is what 90% of your oral will be over) My current employer had us do the same thing for our initial, but they gave us the material a week in advance, and it helped out a lot. So I think you're in good shape with 17 days. More than enough time. Good luck. |

Those were the same items my CP told me to look over as well. He said the same thing, dont stress the systems until I am there.
I have 1200 hours TT. |
Out of all the jets I've trained on, know the limitations and boldface, critical action items. Systems will be fire hosed but you'll get it.
|
Eersfan whereabouts is this company located?
|
what 135 outfit is it, if you don't mind me asking?

Hey Great Advice from Eersfanpilot! The trick is certainly being creative and getting to know people at every airport you visit.
