Wow, $72K? Where'd you see/hear that? Do you know anything about Doss' contract length with the USAF? What about pay raises?

Sounds like a great gig, plus no spin training!!

Pay raises? Are you nuts? 72K isn't enough for a CFI job, IF YOU GET IT? Jeez you people are greedy. Be glad you are lucky enough to have or get a job right now. If I was the interviewer, and you asked me a question like that, I'd throw your arse out the door. Sorry about the rant, long time (read old) CFI.

There are no raises at DOSS unless the Dept of Labor renews the wage determination. Not sure I understand that process. The pay is based on a 40 hour work week.

The contract is for 10 one year contracts. Almost 3 years into it now.

Military Instructor (must have a CFI) time is desired but not mandatory. Must be able to adapt to teaching a military syllabus. (Several high time civilian CFI's have not made it)

I saw an ad for Iasco hiring instructors in Napa and Redding CA. They do the ab-initio for JAL.

If it hasn't been mentioned all ready. Doss Aviation in Pueblo, CO. I've been there for over a year. Mins are 200 hours dual given, 1 year as a CFI (military IP time counts), and some military background helps (not necessarily as a pilot).
Pay is 34.05/hr and that's time at the job not in the airplane so it's about $70K/year. QOL is good. Benefits could be better but it's a small company. Have heard Lockheed Martin is looking at buying us which would boost benefits some since they are a larger company. Monday-Friday with the occasional Saturday due to bad weather during the normal week. They'll normally give us about 4-5 days notice if we're flying Sat. The farthest you'll take the students is to their solo. The toughest part is to remember it's flight screening not training so the candidate (student) has about 14 hours to solo or their out. The flight training is conducted in the Diamond 20 C-1

MusDg,

Any medical/dental? What about retirement fund (401K, etc)? Any paid vacation? Standard 8-hour work days? How many positions are open? Any idea if they'll still be hiring through December? Is there a decent selection of houses in Pueblo? I think I know someone working there. Ever run across Yak? Thanks!

I went over to the IASCO office in Redding the other day, They have IP's for the current class but are ramping up for more students. Said they needed CFI, CFII, MEI's, start at $19 and some beni's. RDD's a good town, some cargo work regional traffic. A couple of nice lakes near by and in the winter Shasta's a nice place to ski. Summer can be hot and smokey, hope this helps.

We have three medical plans. The low end one you don't have to pay for. It's an HSA and the company contributes $75 per month to a savings account. The others are your standard health plans but are pricey since we're a small company. Dental for me is standard and is about $20/paycheck. We have a 401k that the company matches the first 5%.

Hey, thanks for replying. Was that 5% or 50%? Even so, sounds like a good gig and a good place to work. I hope they're still hiring later this year.
