UPS 2005 Hiring Forecast

A class of 15 to 20 pilots every 20-25 days throughout 2005. Up to 300 total.

Minimums:

1,500 TT
1,000 PIC jet and/or ME turboprop
ATP or ATPw
FE or FEw
Bachelors degree "preferred"

{Internal UPS recommendation pretty much a must as well.}

If UPS says they are hiring 300, you can plan on them hiring around 450. Count on it.

The UPS training center is feeling the squeeze with all the transitions, upgrades, and current new hires learning their new plane.

The next few weeks should yield more info on future class dates.

When movement happens at UPS, it happens FAST. You can sit for years as a bottom FE, then in one big bid hold right seat on a widebody with guys coming in underneath you.

Everyone getting hired has had an internal recommendation, so keep that in mind once you've met UPS minimums...

Click here for the UPS Flight Officer job page. For a while it was taken down, but it's back up now.

Read a post on another board that stated UPS somewhat differentiates between those with turbo-prop and those with jet times ie.a person with jet time would get the nod over turbo prop? Any truth to the statement?

A fair amount of former military and Legacy airline pilots in recent classes-- UAL, AA, etc-- so it might be skewed towards "jet" drivers at the moment:

January classes breakdown

former Legacy airline: 5
former Legacy/Military: 6
former Military: 7
former Regional airline: 6
former Charter/Cargo airline: 3

25% success rate

Bill Norris, UPS pilot hiring manager, stated in the latest UPS Dispatch that 25% of the pilots interviewed get hired.

Does anybody know how UPS hands out rejections? Is it on the spot, or weeks later?

I know how our culture is such that you are the perfect candidate outside of your flying skills. UPS loves to promote from within. However, I can't see how you could go from paying for ME time to flying a jet transport. Are you able to take a regional job? Do you have the 1000 hours of PIC? Best of luck, but I can't see how we could hire someone who is not already a professional pilot--there are just too many highly qualified folks out there.

"The thought of leaving a 75K a year job as a delivery driver to flying for peanuts to build time seems pointless when I can pay to build time"

You can't pay to build 1000 PIC turbine. Even with UPS pilots pulling for you, which is key, you still have to meet the normal mins.

I'm gonna say three to five years.
