Good luck to you USMCFLYR, and to the others who applied.

My mom is a Federal employee, in human resources (doesn't hire pilots tho :(), and when I tried to apply for a position in her office during the questionable times this summer, she told me that any VA or Federal employee automatically has priority over my application, so don't get too encouraged. She said it goes for all Federal jobs. Quite frankly, I agree with the policy.

The vacancy announcement indicates, "Many vacancies - Throughout the Nation." Any ideas how many pilots they are looking for?

The announcement also says that they may interview some - all - or none! :(
No...I haven't anything along the line of total numbers, but since sending in the app I haven't heard a word from them. I think though that if you review the CBP thread the process may move at a similar pace. I had heard that the pilots showing up on the job right now started the process back in March/April timeframe.
tcasra - did you get your app in on time?

USMCFLYR,

I think you're right and it may take a while for the FAA to get back to the applicants. I sent my paperwork in on the 18th. Good luck to you and Thank You for your Service!

Thanks. Good luck to you too.
That was a pretty quick application window huh?
I was expecting a 30 day period and I knew that the notifications usually went out on Mondays. I had checked that Monday (both the USAJOBS and FAA jobs sites) and hadn't seen it posted. On a lark I checked on Tuesday and saw the job posting. I'm lucky I had everything with me in order to put that application together since I was on detachment at the time!
This is my first time applying for one of these positions and it was quite the chore getting that whole process together :)
Which field office are you hoping for should you get the nod?

I didn’t indicate a preference as I would hope to be considered for any vacancy. However, if given the choice I would prefer the SMF or ATL field office. Spoke with one of their pilots based out of the OKC a few months back and he informed me they have a pretty good mix of civil and mil guys on board. Given the short notice of the public vacancy announcement along with your mil background I would say you have a pretty good shot. I’ll wish enough luck for the both of us!

Same to you tcasra! I agree about the mix of civilian and military background from the people I have talked to in the past. Even though the window was very short, Vicki said that she had received quite a numbers of applications.

Clue/Cleco - Be sure and post on here when you hear anything.

Has anyone that has applied for this job gotten any feedback? I've gotten feedback that they have received my resume/application.

The stamps on the receipt of my application and the letter of breing turned down were the exact time and exact day both, so it looks like I was NOT even looked at. I had several recommendations from previous instructors and friends who are working for the FAA as inspectors and several years of 121 experience.
The statement read:
Thank you for applying on our external vacancy announcement, AAC-NOE-10-AJW3300-118941, Airspace System Inpection Pilot, FG-2181-11/13. Qualified individuals with veterans' preference were referred to the selecting official. Non-preference eligibles may not be selected as long as preference eligibles are still available and interested. I am sorry to inform you that, at this time, your application was not included in the group that was referred. Additional information on veterans' preference in hiring can be located at U.S. Office of Personnel Management Veterans Information.

So, if you are a qualified individual with veterans' preference, good luck and I wish you the best, looks like you will be the only ones to get hired.
