Default FAA hiring Airspace System Inspection Pilot

I figure I post this link for anybody who is seriously considering flying for the FAA. I think this job requires flying King Airs. On the site it says there are many vacancies open throughout the nation and the application must be recieved before Nov 23, 2009. I don't meet their hourly requirements of 1500TT and 500 multi but I figure I pass it along. Just goes to show that there are jobs out there. I can imagine this being better than most pilot jobs out there. Good luck to whoever gets considered and if you get selected let me know as well, it would feel great to me knowing someone actually got hired from me passing some info along.

I have applied for this job the last three times it has been open and have spoken directly to the guys running the SMF and OKC offices about it.

Bottom line: Don't even bother applying unless you have prior MIL experience or are a Federal transfer. The veteran's preference and Fed transfer points put all those apps at the top of the list as is required by law.

One guy I spoke to who works there was an airline guy, got furloughed and went to work for the TSA. It was the only way he got his foot in the Federal door.

Its pure luck and right place at the right time.

We had a guy leave Colgan as an FO about a year or so ago for this job. He had I believe 1500-2000 hours and 500 or so multi with no military.

I think that was the guy I spoke with who had worked previously for the TSA.

He posts on here so maybe he could chime in with his experience.

I sent in my application for this on Thursday after a friend of mine stumbled upon it. A year ago I was in a refresher sim class with four of their pilots. One was from Battle Creek, one from Atlantic City, and two from Atlanta. They were all former military. They said all that they can get is former military hired on. And they all said that they were going to be hiring soon. Well, one year wasn't too long to wait as they talked the job up and got me excited about it.

As far as the schedule, they said they are typicall on the road Monday thru Thursday, then home for a week getting ready for the next job. The all loved the job and said I couldn't find a better government flying job, military or GS.

Hopefully this works out. They gave the the applicant the choice of sending in a resume or filling out their application form. I couldn't find a version of the form to type into so I settled for the resume route. The flight hour verification form was a beast. I think it took me an hour and a half to figure out my time in the format that the asked for.

I applied for this job too last week. Just waiting for the form to be returned indicating whether I met the minimum requirements (more than just flight time) or not and been moved on to the next step.

From my research, they do have a lot of former military, but not all. I've been talking to a few of the guys over the past year or more and they (my contacts) are a mix of former P121 guys and Army C-12.

Clue spoke of the time on the road. Your time on the road differs whether you are a SIC or PIC from my understanding. SIC spend less time on the road (fly less) and have more ground duties while the PIC are flying more (approx 70% from one report).

The major advantages of this job seem to be the pay and stability. This mission isn't going away in my estimation - it should be growing over time with the advent of more and more approaches. It seems that this is one of those jobs that people make into a career with very little turnover.

Concur with the application though. Mine ended up being 12 pages long and my community doesn't log time in the same manner as the supplemental application required, so it was quite the challenge to go back through ALL of the civilian and military logbooks to complete the form >whew<

There is at least one former P121 pilot who posts on APC though I haven't seen him active in some time. this thread title ought to catch his attention though if he still visits.

Good luck to all that might have applied and please keep everyone updated.

When you say former military. Do youmean former military pilots. I mean I have 21 years as an Army Infantryman. I gte veterans preference for Federal jobs. But are they talking about military pilots or military ingeneral?

You would get the veterans preference points for the job and would be considered. Your experience as a pilot would be compared to the others who made the cut in the next step of the process.
