I work for a very small flight school and we get paid for both flight and ground time at a rate of $20/hr. If the student wants me to be there at 1100 thats when billing starts and it doesn't end untill all of the paper work is done. I work for the DoD during the week days and they pay me very well. My evening and weekend time is worth a lot to me and so is my skill as a pilot. I don't fly/work for free EVER.

19/hr is a little on the low side. I start off my instructors at 24/hour which becomes 25 after six months. I have a guys that makes 75/hr. Yeah that's right, it's not a typo. And that is for flying a 172, 182 or PA44. Same rate applies for ground. Convince your students you are worth that much and they will gladly pay with no questions asked. That's what I tell my guys.

I make $21 an hour for ground and flight and all of my students are pretty cool too. I've gotten to fly a bunch of cool stuff including a Columbia 400.
