True, but now it will be interesting to see what happens as there's been no 747 CA vacancy bids for a couple of months. Will they continue to hold out or just bid over to 767 CA?

You can make more as a senior 74 FO. More CRT, and more OT.

Sounds far better than doing DHL hub turns on the deuce

Yeah, but IF you've already got 1000 heavy international PIC, that 767 CA type might put you over the top elsewhere. I understand why people bypass and why they take first available. Taking the first available 767 will certainly cost you money in the long run.

Yes but they hired something like 700 people in between that last guy and this December. I get it that only 550 of those are probably left but that'll take a long time to go through. Mass attrition started this year.

They hired around 300 in 2015 and nearly all of them bypassed the 76 upgrade. Maybe a 3 dozen of those 2015 hires took the 76 left seat. It’s actually pretty remarkable how many are bypassing.

To me that decision is 100% about your resume. Does a 767 Type with PIC get you to a Legacy, Southwest, UPS, or FedEx? If the answer is yes then you do it immediately. I know one guy who never even consolidated on the 767 before he started at Delta. Or maybe if your goal is UPS and you've already got the 767 type then being a 747-8F Captain gets you to UPS. It all depends on the individual.

There is a bunch of 76 Captains whose seat locks released in the last couple of months that have 74 CA standing bids. SL front loaded the 74 LHS so he could strand those guys on the 76 for several more months. The exodus from the twin would be too much for them to deal with because they still run this place like they did where there was 300 pilots on the seniority list. My guess is no more 74 CA vacancy awards until well into next year and when they do come it will be 7+ years seniority to hold it. Just my guess....not trying to upset anyone.

If that was his plan, he's going to find that to be ineffective when 747 Captains bolt during hiring season... I bet there's a healthy amount in Feb/Mar.

76 Captains are bolting as fast if not faster than 74 guys. A 74 CA slot taken by a 76 Captain creates two training events which is accounted for and part of the cost of doing business at a legitimate airline. As we all know this is an illegitimate excuse of an outfit coming apart at the seams. They had their chance to make this a legit world class airline but greed and Lorenzoitis compelled them to set this course and now we are over open water and out of gas. Time to get your ditching checklist organized.

UPS is hiring a ton of our 747 guys and I bet that accelerates this year. Both Captains are very attractive candidates for Big Boy airlines... I know 2 747 Captains in the pool at UPS and a 3rd with a class date. Plus two FOs in the January 3rd class and another FO in the pool.
