I know a <1yr. Atlas/Southern newbie who made 80G last year, was home 20 days last month which included reserve at his home base. Loves the aircraft he is on. Says he flies with some 'awesome dudes' who are really helpful. Was going to use Atlas as a stepping stone but now actually thinks he is going to stay. Seemed pretty happy to me. Was this guy pulling my leg?

Every airline that isn't UNITED, FEDEX, UPS, DELTA, SOUTHWEST or AMERICAN is moaning that their airline is the worst. It depends on what you want. Want 121 TPIC fast? Go to Skywest and eat ramen for a couple years. Want a regional with a good QOL? Move to Puyallup and fly for Compass and enjoy the U-pick blueberries.

Sorry but some of this complaining seems directed and just doesn't add up with the stories I'm hearing from real friends on the line at Atlas.
This has to be a troll.... There isn't a way to make $80K on first year. That's Almost 1000 credit hours in 8 months.

Ok Paywise, I'll check and see if that included previous employer. I really want to know.

People are asking on this thread why would anyone come here (Atlas) and fly a 747 to exotic places around the world? The answer is in the question. How many peole have flown a Dash or an RJ 8 legs in a day for poverty wages before commuting home for two days to kiss the wife and start another 5 day trip? 80 bucks an hour? That's multi-year captain pay (and years away) at pick-your-regional. Reserve for months. Crash pad. Away from family? That is a day in the life of the regionals. That first year bonus goes fast at Generic Regional. And there are really creative ways of the company getting it Back.

At least at Atlas you get your time off in a chunk. Maybe Bring back some cool things for the family from China and Aussie. Either way it's more of an adventure than Special Assists at SLC all day for 40 bucks an hour.

Yeah brah, it’s a totally cool adventure. And you get to fly a cool plane. It’s so sick. I’d do it for free, bro.

The 80K must have included his pay from his prior airline or he must have included per diem which should not be considered compensation. All you need to do is do the math.

I'm on 4th year pay here and have yet to break 100K. I bid for max days off (avg 14 per month) and don't work on days off. I bid split lines and avoid 17 day trips if I can, so my CRT is a little lower than someone working 17 days in a row. I have a good paycheck (relatively speaking) a couple times per year when I credit 75 hours or so. Another 3-4 months a year I'll average maybe 68-70 hours. At least 6 months out of the year I am at min guarantee for the month..... Two vacations for the year means you are at 62 hours for those months, training twice a year means 62 hours for the month if you conflict bid and do not train on days off, and if you call in sick twice a year you are at min guarantee. The pay is as bad as you hear. Like I said, your buddy probably included his compensation for part of the year from his prior company, is counting per diem as part of his pay, or he is bad at math.

Notice there was zero explanation on how his buddy made "80G" 1st year at Atlas. Was his buddy waiting tables, driving for Uber and turning tricks in dark alleys in Mexico in addition to working for Atlas? Atlas is about $38,400K guaranteed first year.

To rehash kids.... You make $1600 a month plus per diem for the first two months. Right now we have around 80 pilots on the 747 waiting for OE and we're hiring 20 something every 3 weeks to keep up with our mass attrition so you'll be waiting more than 4 months for OE. Bottom line? Expect to make $6400 TOTAL your first 4 months at Atlas. Once you complete training that will be without per diem.

Month 5 you'll probably finish OE, but you won't break guarantee so you'll make $80 times your 50 hour guarantee.... Did I mention your guarantee is only 50 hours? $4000 month 5.

Month 6 you'll have PT where your training stops your Rig. You didn't break for the month. You'll make guarantee that month so another $4000.

Months 7 through 11 you'll start breaking guarantee so long as you aren't sick or have bereavement, BUT for month 6 you didn't so... $4,000.

Months 8-12 you'll probably average 72 hours a month. That's $5760. You might not consolidate in time (100 hours in 120 days after your checkride) and be forced back into training where you'll make guarantee again after taking an extra check ride... So getting the full 72 hours month 8 will take some luck.

So to sum this up... You are likely to make $47,200 your first year at Atlas being gone an average of 240 days (did I mention you'll be commuting to ANC). In addition to this any airplane tickets or hotels you use will be taxed and subtracted from what you make in addition to regular taxes.

Other Atlas guys feel free to adjust my math.

Remember first year is only 50 hours guarantee so it only takes 11 days to break it. The PT only take one day plus a day of travel before and after. Say their PT is on day 14 of their line and the company figures it's easier to just send them home afterwards. They'd still make ~$4800 that month.

Ok... This could help people budget on this thread.

So we're up to $48,000 year 1 pay. Please chime in to adjust my numbers.

It's absolutely impossible to make 80k the first year. You won't get your first line until month 5 maybe.

Then you will have to go to miami after that for your year end PC.

Essentially you will only get 6 months of line pay.

20 days off. Sure- it happens. But what was the pilots previous month ?

Awesome pilots. He must be on the light twin.
