Is there a provision in the CBA for seat locks to be waived(operational need/new type etc.)?

Seat locks are released if a new, higher-paying type shows up. Thus, a 767 FO under seat lock could bid, say, 777 FO, while a 747 FO under seat lock could not. Bidding a different type incurs another 3-year seat lock, but it's waived for an upgrade.

Yes, the company can waive any seat locks, equipments locks, etc at their convenience...

ultradrvr,
I would modify your statement by adding that seat locks being released is significant ONLY if there are vacancies on a higher paying aircraft...IMHO.

I think Ultradrvr's point was that was when the 1st set are up and any hiring after that will likely be into the 767 as any 747 vacancies will be filled by those 767 folks looking for a pay raise.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to have 1 set price for all airplanes and not have to do the training shuffle?

UPS, and to some extent FDX (with their narrow-body vs wide-body pay rates) have already figured that out...

But ALPo (!!) drives these things and they have traditionally been for pay differential, 12-year pay scales, etc.

we're losing 35-40 a year to retirements, correct? even without new equipment or hiring, there will be vacancies eventually.

Closer to 25 but some will medical out before 65.
