Sorry, Mike, couldn't resist...we're still good, right?!!
STOOGE!!!!!!!!!

How many times have I told you, "if you leave yourself open...."

Seriously...this isn't necessarily a bad place for the discussion. It needs to be repeated because some folks missed it.

This isn't RJ flying...or DAL...UAL...Airways...FedEx...UPS...this IS different. It's not schedule driven, it's customer driven and they can change flights faster than poop through a goose. And they do. Many times a day.

Should the company do a better job of scheduling? Yep. We all know who the biggest headache(s) there is (are). Their goal is to get to the end of the shift, not be efficient. What's new...it happens everywhere.

To the potential newbie...you know the old line, "at my last carrier, we did...?" Well, there's one here too..."this is the life you have chosen..."

A lot has changed for the better since Mikey said that many years ago and more will change. Don't come here for the rating. It's not going to help you land a job anywhere unless you have a bunch of PIC with it. Don't think you have the market cornered on how to fix things. The folks who have been here for awhile have many years of other airline union experience before coming here, so assuming that you have all the answers only means you don't know the questions.

Understand the history of the place. Listen. ASK questions. Plenty of older heads will take the time to explain it so you can understand it.

Understand that for all intents and purposes, this is a first contract. Anyone who expects it to have as much curing as a 40-60 year old legacy contract has no concept of contracts. Give them a wide berth.

Most of all. Despite the headaches, the job is what you make it. You will get to see and do stuff that legacy guys will never do and can only dream of. IF that is what you want, jump in. If what you want is a 3/4 schedule, reserve for 15 or so years...then this isn't where you want to be.

And if you don't want those things, take the honorable course and stay where you are and let someone who needs and truly wants the job to step in.

YMMV

Here is a link for your convenience.
Well done, Worldfr8dog. Perhaps we can head off the vitriol to a different venue.

Good question. What are the mins? What are the bases? Do you commute, how does that work? How's the pay? Can I do day trips? 17 days seems too long to be gone. What are the schedules like? What are the layovers like? What's the pay in training? How long is training? What's the interview like? What questions are on the tech test and where can I get the answers? Do they fly people too?

With regards to hiring, according to an update on the June 25th P2P phone call a volunteer (whom I trust) indicated that the company cancelled the interviews for late June (maybe postponed would be a better term?), due to HR being overwhelmed (which tracks with other info I've seen). However, HR is still planning on continuing to hire.

Also from the same source, Jeff Carlson told the latest New Hire class in MIA that the company is in "a good spot" and will continue to hire for the foreseeable future. He also said there are additional business opportunities we can't get right now because we don't have enough crews (and the amount of open time trips we're all seeing seems to validate the lack of crews info).

So, if you are considering applying, or have begun the process, I'd say you stand a good chance of hearing something in the next couple months.

My apologies to all for this hiring related interruption. Now back to your regularly scheduled flame war.

Jay of course we are good and most of us enjoy spirited conversations, me included. No worries!

As for reserve for 15 years, plan on being treated as a reserve until we plug the many holes acknowledged in this contract are closed hopefully in 16. Company wants flexibility we should have rules that are commensurate and compensate with give and take. Company is allowed to run all over the contract yet we do nothing but hold the line and file grievances. If they want AQP and the like bend them over for collective abuses. make it benefit us exclusively for once, jeez have they not bought enough stock back! I know once we have 100% solidarity we'll hold the cards...really!?

Tired of the excuses for being outfoxed that is all. I wish all those well trying to get here and for those elected to maintain the balance.

We all know why that is... Now that the seat locks are going away on the 767, each 747 FO that leaves will cost the company two types instead of one. If I were them I'd be hiring constantly to keep up.

I'm guessing that they're expecting to lose so many over the next year that they'll have trouble keeping up.
