Accepting an extension you are not required to accept helps ONLY the company. I'm not saying this was the case or targeting DT. However justifying this by saying you waived rest and made extra days of pay sitting on your sofa is HOPIng. I have heard this kind of justification on the line.."I made them pay twice to move the jet" blah blah blah. That's peanuts compared to the cost of a service failure that they should be tagged with for their speculative extension program that is contrary to our pathetic CBA.
Edit to add after DT's clarification: You don't have to accept an extension to DH. You can insist on a commercial ticket home. Sometimes it's unavoidable because there may not be commercial service available but if you have already made your own travel arrangements then you won't be there to insist they follow the contract and that hurts all of us.

Wait. What?
What you're ACTUALLY doing is THEIR JOB of getting you home.
Nice that you can jigger the deal so CRT runs while you're at home. Nice for YOU. But make no mistake, you're relieving the company of the burden to return you home.
You're helping yourself (first) and the company (second). To hell with everyone else.
These are the sort of internal rationalizations that will stop when we look ourselves in the mirror and ask ourselves: Who am I helping? Myself? The Company? Or my Colleagues.
Just because you *think* you're sticking it to the company with your CRT running at home doesn't mean you're actually SHOPing.
That's just looking out for yourself.

How do you figure that I am relieving the company sending me home? I still get my GW travel home of which they are contractually obligated to give me. I follow the CBA to the letter.
What would you have me do??? Stay on my DH, stay on the delayed airplane is this example to help my colleagues rather than get back to base earlier and get paid for the extension without actually suffering the loss?
This is just matter of fact, I am not planning it this way nor am "jiggering" it to help myself out.
Dogpile all you want but I don't do anything contrary to the CBA and I leverage all of our allowances including GW. I have never waived GW travel.

"...accepting the changes, getting released and taking Polar flights home."
I understand this statement to mean that you allow the company to show a dummy DH on your schedule while in reality you jumpseat "home" on a Polar a/c.
I didn't see any indication you actually take Gateway "home".
The fundamental spirit behind SHOPing is that you make the company do their job; you do NOT lighten up their load even if there's a clear advantage to YOURSELF. To the contrary, sometimes sticking it to the company has a direct DETRIMENT to your quality of life.
This is called: Taking One For the Team.
AKA: Short Term Pain For Long Term Gain.

Agreed.
I must use GW....I don't live somewhere that enables me to take a company AC or any other AC "home" from overseas. That being said, as I have said earlier, I have never nor will I ever waive GW travel.

Ok! Good. Well, maybe there's a misunderstanding. Safe flights.
Not true for YOU doesn't make it not true regardless of how long you have been here. I don't need to justify my paycheck to you or anybody just to prove a point but Aug. was a vacation month for me so I got min guarantee. July: 18.97 above. June: 28.26 above. How is this lying?

I agree with everything you said here with the exception of waiving rest and HOPing the company. I don't see how that would be helping them...if anything, I took myself offline and became unavailable with a day left on my pattern. I still took the GW from base to home. But what you are implying is not what happened....I did NOT accept an extension into days off in my example, nor did I relieve the company of their obligation to get me to base or from base to my residence. This was all done during my patterned days. As a matter of consequence the DH got delayed and I was paid for it. Period.

To give some extra perspective to this, my first year at Atlas I made over 100K and the next year and so on. Those years were along time ago and under our old and first contract. When the company forced this POS contract on us they cried like babies that it was going to cost them a fortune to give us CRT etc and the company cannot compete blah blah blah. Fast forward to now and we have first officers flying wide body jets around this planet working harder than I remember that I did and somehow making far less a decade and a half later. The moral of this story is don't believe the multi millionaire money grabbing suits that run this company when they say they can't pay us our worth and compete in this market. They are sad and very greedy school of Lorenzo dinosaurs.
