So all in all, coming to Atlas for many is to get to fly the 747? Or the lifestyle? Regional Captain make similar pay as 747 FO it seems!

I fly 747 now and get 10 days off in a row in a month and make 100K net a year (after taxes), will make 112K after a year. Schedule isn't too bad and get free first class commute anywhere on the airline. Maybe will get to fly the 787 or 777 or ATR captain with same pay in two years time. But the airline(line pilots) is so picky, that it sucks the fun out of flying. The only reason I am thinking of a change.

Should I stay away from Atlas? And look elsewhere? Any suggestions. I am thinking of moving back and live in Tampa and maybe get MIA later down the road. Chances of upgrade within 2-3 years (hypothetically)??

Okay, I’ll help you out since most people are pretty high on the rhetoric.

You will get more than 10 days off, yes, and Tampa is very doable. You may not get 747, even though you’re typed (lots of TPA on the 767 so it isn’t all bad).

There is something to be said for what the past few posters have wrote about the laughable conditions here. Will it stay this way? Personally I’m 50/50. I don’t know. Upgrade in 3 years? Probably, but never guaranteed. You could just as easily be on the street if they decide to downsize for any reason (though I don’t find this likely, personally). Pay is gonna be worse than you make now and you will have 0 control Over what you make beyond guarantee. The flight ops here is in disarray-they are even lying to pilots to coerce them to fly into hostile areas such as Afghanistan with no support. Our customers despise our operation and would be happy to **** can us ASAP.

That said, it is a genuinely good group of people and some fun flying. And maybe one day we will have a real good contract. Can’t promise you that though. I think you need to make your own decision!

If i could go back and leave my regional FO job for this all over again, knowing what I know now, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Atlas is the worst job in the history of jobs. It will be 25-30 years before we see a contract. I’d rather flip burgers than work here! and I sure as heck would if I didn’t have two boats, an airplane, three houses, and a third world village depending on my paltry sub-standard income!

Thanks for the information. Appreciate it. Guess whatever gives you the best quality of life and at the end the decision is to be made by me for sure. Forgot about the 767 to be honest. I was so focused on 747 and thinking about TPA that the thought of 767 dropped out of my head. If I can get 12 days off and few layovers in TPA every month and make 5k after taxes and other deductions i'd be a happy lad. Which I think is quite doable.

BTW, how many legs do 767 guys fly on a normal basis, 1-2?

5k after taxes is almost 767 Captain salary at Atlas, you won't be making that much until quite some time after hire. Expect something like $3500/mo take home, for the first few years, for real. Maybe you can make more if you don't plan to live very long so you don't contribute to the crappy almost completely self funded 401K. No improvement in sight. With these schedules you probably won't live more than a month or two past retirement anyway so maybe you can skip it. Actually you'll probably die well before retirement from an esophageal rupture after eating tainted catering or just stroke out while you're trying to get your 2 hours of nightly sleep at the sort. Getting a TPA overnight is not guarantee at all on the 767 especially without seniority. The DHL and Amazon routes change like the wind. Atlas is just one contractor of many and the routes come and go on a monthly basis, by the time you got here there is a good chance TPA would be gone.

767 DHL is 2-4 legs per night. You start at about 9 PM, fly to CVG, sit there for 4 or 5 hours, then finish at about 9 AM. Amazon is random where you get to do things like start at 4AM one day for a flight then start at 11 PM the next day. It's not good. 747 is even worse, but at least you get a little bit more money to spend on the tattered shambles of a personal life you'll have after a few years of being almost completely absent.

Sorry to disappoint.

So you don't break guarantee hours at Atlas?

On 5th year pay I made $10,000 over guarantee last year. Remember that if you have Training (2 times a year you have it), you call in sick, have vacation, or bereavement you make 62 hour guarantee. They can also send you home and put you on home reserve which we don't get paid for. We have no line guarantee. You need to financially plan to make 62 hours a month while you're at Atlas due to the work rules.

You may break guarantee about 4 months out of the year, unless you never take vacation, never get sick, and choose to train on your days off. Even so the 767 has maany lines that will take you away from home 17+ days plus and rig 59 hrs, block 40.

7th year, I average 65.5 hours or 42 hours over guarantee for the year.

So rarely any premium trips or overtime pay? With a shortage of pilots and a surge in air freight I would've thought you'd be well over guarantee. Some Kalitta guys were saying they're getting over 100 pay hours every month and legacy pilots were talking about 150 or more.

I guess it comes down to your lousy contract that's not really giving you opportunities to exceed guarantee then?

What the others said about pay is correct ^^ Possible to credit 75-80 a month, but you have 0 control over it and when they change your schedule this will change. I wouldn't count on it. Trust me, I learned the hard way.

Lots of OT. Whether you want to take it and face the wrath of your peers is up to you.

Negotiating committee just updated us today with the latest round of negotiations. The company came back with several concessionary offers and demands from the pilots. Just absolutely mind blowing in the current pilot market we are in. I would say if you come here do not expect a new contract anytime soon unless we lose the lawsuit, at which point concessions (I Can't believe I am actually acknowledging this) is a very real possibility. During a pilot shortage, no less. This may be truly the most disconnected management group I've ever seen in my life!
