Default PIC Turbine Time

I am currently with a company that has BE 1900's. It looks like within a year I will be in the left seat. My question is does it matter what size plane you are getting PIC turbine time in? I have heard that 1900 time is a waste and I should move on and get time in a bigger airplane.

The only PIC turbine time that I would consider "wastefull" would be the caravan. 1900 time is just as good as Dash, Brazilia, etc. Once you get above 12.5k it really doesn't matter what turbine you're in.

He's right, it all counts- for SWA, Fedex, etc.
It is a little confusing when you read the fedex qualifications- (from pilot.fedex.com)

"1500 hours total fixed-wing time as pilot-in command (PIC) or first officer (SIC) including a minimum 1000 hours PIC in fixed-wing jet, fixed wing multi-engine turbo-prop, or combination thereof.
Note: PIC for this purpose is defined as Captain/Aircraft Commander of record, not simply the sole manipulator of the controls.
Note: FedEx considers only pilot time in fixed wing aircraft toward minimum qualifications. This does not include simulator, helicopter, flight engineer, bombardier, navigator, RIO, EWO, WSO, NFO, or Special Crew."

ANY size multi engine turbo prop is good for the 1000 PIC requirement. The single engine jet is for the military types. Sometimes you will see a 20,000 pound requirement- that is for recips only (I guess so Convair guys get to apply, too!)

Airlines are looking to hire people that have captain experience- abilities to be good decision makers, etc. Having PIC time shows the command experience- the size isn't important.

Jetblue has a requirement for 1000 hrs. over 20,000 lbs.
At least that is what their web site has listed.

Default T-6 Texan II PIC Time

Does anyone know if Fedex allows T-6 time PIC time? It is a single-engine turbo-prop, and is the replacement for the T-37 in the US Air Force.

thanks

Hey Texin

I posted right off the Fedex website above. It looks like single engine turboprop DOES NOT count for the 1000 PIC time. But I will ask for you when I go to work tonight.

Texin

The requirements for Fedex, posted above, are locked in stone. I asked a guy that does interviews (actually, WAS DOING interviews this week!) He said no exceptions. Sorry....
