Once that is done, hiring will commence as soon as they get the recalls done, which won't take long, as the return rates off of recall will be the lowest UAL has ever seen.

Flight/Duty/Rest rules go into effect by 1 Aug. It will DRASTICALLY affect the regionals. The regionals are already having large problems getting enough guys in class. They will have to cancel flights, and if mainline wants the PAX, mainline will have to pick up the slack.

As I said, all bets are off, in the short term, depending on the MD/oil situation.

Long-term, with the ATP requirement, the growing demand for pilots overseas, and all of the Age 65 retirements, pilots will be in short supply. DAL has to replace 900 pilots in one of the their calendar years due to retirements!!!

Unless oil shoots up? Stays high? It breached $100 per barrel today. Does that count? I think yes.

(Regarding Regionals) A year ago I was hard pressed trying to get an interview, and very few were hiring. I was luckily able to land an interview with Eagle when they first started hiring, got the conditional letter, but then the "thanks, but no thanks" letter 3 months later. I did land a job last fall but have since received a phone call from ExpressJet, Colgan, then Mesaba (after telling them 3 times I was no longer interested) and received an email from American Eagle. And I haven't updated my airlineapps in like 5 months. I think my times on there are around 1500/300. I feel that they are really beginning to reach the hiring frenzy point. If you're looking to get an interview with a regional and you are at least near their minimums, I think you have a pretty good shot.

They do start coming in pretty quick succession, we're still trying to figure out the TBNT letter after a conditional from AE, something happened with the PRIA is usually the case. I did sign on with Colgan/Mesaba (BOS base) however was very polite to the many HR people from other carriers who have called in the past week.
