According to this site, USA3000 is hiring. It sounds perfect with 15 days per month off, and all but 5% of schedules are out and backs. Basically I have 2 questions for anyone out there:

1. What are the mins? is it the standard, 1500 TT, 100 PIC, ATP (and what is realistic hiring experience?

2. How are domiciles determined?

How senior is the PHL base? Any chance of getting it as a new hire? Also, what are the chances of being offered a permanent position? I don't see why they would pay for a type and then terminate you. Any future growth? Thanks for any info!

USA3000 was planning to lease 4 seasonal a/c from Thomas Cook for this winter season, and are now only getting 2. The plan was to have 6 new hire classes this fall, but they have now reduced it to 3, all of which have already been conducted (30 pilots were hired). Attrition will dictate their need for additional classes, but traditionally they have only hired in the fall and winter.

The pilot group now stands at just under 170 pilots, and are represented by the Teamsters (currently in mediation). I believe that with the addition of the 2 seasonal a/c the total count stands at 14. Current bases include BWI, DTW, CLE, FLL, NYC, ORD, PHL, PIT, RSW, and STL. Before the fall hiring, the most junior pilot in PHL was about number 142.

According to a pilot that is involved in the hiring process there, they have not hired a pilot with less than 4,000 TT. I don't know about the new hires this fall, but in the past they have preferred A-320 or similar glass time and have had the luxury of hiring primarily furloughed USAir, United, TWA/American, etc. Here are the published requirements:

Airline Transport Pilot License
First Class FAA Medical Certificate
5000 Hours Total Flight Time
1000 Hours Pilot-in-Command Time
Prior Part 121 Experience
Vision corrected to 20/20
Possess valid passport

The pilots who live in base are much happier than commuters for the most part. I have been told that schedules are difficult for commuters.

So, you need about 7 years at some kind of airline, glass time, command time, 5000 total hours, preferrably a 320 rating..........all so you can fly in the right seat of an airplane for a whopping 45k/yr. I'm sorry, I made a mistake. 22.5k/6 months is actually the amount because after April 30th, you'll be looking for another job. Somehow, somewhere, Getaway has factored in the type rating cost into their cost of doing business. If this is the case, I assume Angus et al are aware they are training wonderful candidates for JetBlue. Especially since 12 years of service would give you 99k, no pension, no 401k, no profit sharing, no nothing.

If you just happen to be sitting around in PHL or EWR doing nothing, then why not go and fly for them for a few months. For all the rest, get the PC, and when you are on your return flight back from training in MIA, update your resumee with everyone else..............April will be here before you know it!!!!!!!!!!!

You've got it. They don't necessarily beg you to stick around for the long haul. Angus's belief is that a 1st year captain performs the same duties as a 5th year captain for less money...so why would he want to keep you around for longer than 3-4 years? The folks at U3K are well aware that they are a training ground for jetBlue...and a stopping point for folks on their way to SWA, UPS, FedEx, Cathay, etc. They did have a training contract for $20,000 at one point a couple of years ago, but that is now gone. They also were originally requiring that you give up your number at your other airline...but this is no longer the case. Just when you think the pool of pilots with these qualifications that would be willing to work there is drying up, along comes another batch (Independence Air).
