What? I missed the doughnuts? Rats!
Guess they had to raise sugar levels for the night hub turn to keep everyone awake!

"legally complex issue"
Capt O began the briefing with a statement that pilot hiring is a "legally complex issue" indicating to me that there have been some legal "bumps" in the road. Don't know any specifics but have heard rumors of lawsuits over nepotism and favoritism.

Top priority is given for MD11 pilots now,( carrier and KC-10 time translates well) and will shift to 757 soon( FMS time will help). After those slots everyone may be on more level footing. If my 1am memory serves, we've hired about 60 of the 500 current slots. Don't give up hope if you haven't been called as needs of the company are shifting.

I'd imagine "they" would like to fill them with folks with MD-11 time, just like they have in ANC. But then again, there are only so many folks out there with MD-11 time that are wanting to leave their present gig.

ANGFDX, best info I've read on APC to date...thanks. Question for you/anyone related to available date: If you're a candidate that's selected for PASS, how far out from your available date could you conceivably get a call considering the current hiring timeline?
Ex. Mil guy coming up on retirement with a hard out date, available JAN 2012?

After re-reading the part about school records and GPA I must laugh.. I was too busy smoking weed and banging freshmen in high school to care about my 2.5 GPA, but ive made it through every training event with flying colors, havent flipped an MD11 yet, and have a college degree to prove I wasted money on a useless piece of paper. Yet FedEx has a "doctor" dictating hiring requirements?
By the way, heard the team leader (or other high up) of the Blue Angels was rejected, causing an almost riot amongst the ranks.

As to your question - To get the call for the interview requires your application (1) score highly in the automated "rack and stack" process, and then (2) to make it through the PASS board. Availability date is a factor, but with a Jan '12 date, you are certainly in the ball park (IMHO). You are only able to control part of the process in ensuring your app package is complete, accurate, and descriptive. Your education/experience is what it is. Several solid rec letters will help, as the SCP reviews those personally.
Also, if you are willing to take an FDA domicile (CGN/HKG/ANC) you get bonus points, and if you have MD-11 time - your get more.
I agree with the previous post that peak season tends to divert attentions, but I think with the current need we will see continued attention to the interview process. We have 100+/yr retiring from 2013 to 2020 and over 200/yr after that for several years.
Best of luck (oh - and THAT is certainly part of the process...)
