ERAU career expo DAB:
I had the opportunity to enjoy the career expo at ERAU DAB this past Wednesday, what a turnout. Entry was open to current ERAU students and alumni, plus anyone currently in the aviation industry. Besides the constant influx of sharply dressed students, were pilots showing up in uniform.
Based upon my arrival time and interviews I had during my time there, I was
able to speak with the four airlines which I was interested in working for. Here is where your credentials differ from what anyone in the HR department is telling you as all asked the same initial questions before proceeding:
Check ride busts-a maximum of two, 121 or 135 as they weren't interested if you choked on your PPL or multi, "we can fix that" each said. Next was any DUI's, any DUI's and you're all done. Third was recency, most were looking for 500 hours in the past year, at least 250 in the past six months. Fourth was glass experience with formal glass training. Fifth was jet experience, each explaining jet energies, and how differently they bleed off airspeed in relation to its propeller driven turbine cousins.
The ERAU career staff was most pleasant and helpful, as optimistic as each airline recruiter. It was a worthwhile afternoon making me thankful that we have one positive thing born out of 911, CASS, making it possible for us to attend such events.
In four hours I scored one interview at the event, scheduled another, and may have at least one more in the future. Def. worth the trip.
