I applied back in Jan. but when I go to update my application, it only allows me to resubmit a resume. What happened to all those specific questions about my flight time? Wish they would allow you to update more than the resume.

As a current US pilot (near the bottom) I would encourage everyone to apply. For one thing, you don't have to make a decision to take the job until/unless one is offered to you. You might not get called, you might interview and get turned down, whatever. But at best you have a job at a major airline, and at worst you have wasted an hour or so filling out an app.
The company seems strongly of the opinion that the merger, if it happens, will NOT result in furloughs. There are a huge number of age 65 retirements coming in the next several years, on both the AA and US sides, and that will result in movement for all. Even if we were to remain stagnant or shrink slightly, the need for furloughs would be negligible - especially in light of the coming staffing changes for the new rest rules.
Absent the merger, the company plans to hire ~25/month indefinitely just to cover retirement attrition going forward. I think the job security here right now is about as high as one can expect on the bottom of an airline seniority list.
No one I know of has been hired without a four-year college degree. The only people I know of who have been hired without meaningful turbine PIC time are legacies (children of chief pilots, check airmen, etc.). They like RJ captains, they like people who live in/near our domiciles, they like people who've flown in the US Express system. None of those are dealbreakers (people who didn't meet one or more of those have been hired aplenty), but they don't hurt your chances from what I can tell. Most of all, they like people who WANT to work for US ... not just using US as a side door to AA, or sitting here until FedEx, WN, or DL call because it's better than a regional.
Expect PHL E190 or DCA A320 if hired. All 3 east bases are attainable on the 320 within a year or so if you're on the airplane. If you're on the 190, you're frozen for a year, then can bid off. If you want PHX, it'll be a while as it won't be attainable until we have a joint contract at least. As for AA bases, if/when the merger goes through, don't count on them for a while as it is anyone's guess what fences or restrictions might look like. (I would expect that, if we merge and if the US management is in charge, the BOS and STL AA bases would be closed. NYC, DCA, MIA, ORD, DFW, and LAX are the only ones they'd keep. This management team prefers fewer and larger bases in major hubs ... when US and HP merged, there were eight bases between the two, and now there are four ... PIT, BOS, LGA, and LAS all closed.)

The main page for US Air shows $42 per hour for the E190 along with other varied amounts for different airplanes and then states this:
**correction to above payscale: First year pay for all aircraft on the "East" (except for the E190) is a flat salary of $3,000/month.
so... first year pay of $42 per hour for the E190 is correct?

Yeah it is $42 an hour for 1st year on the 190. 76 hours per month for short call/ 72 long call reserve. You will never break 70 hours on reserve on the 190 1st year. Long call averages 55 hours per month; short call 40 hours. It ends up being about 3200 per month pay not including per diem after you finish training.
