Guess I'm needing more posts also since I just started on this.
I went to the Miami job fair earlier this month. About 500 hundred pilots were there most all of them to meet with United recruiters. They had 11 recruiters there. When it was your time, you got about 5 minutes with one of the recruiters to go over your resume and ask questions.

I would attach the UA Q&A that was handed out at the MIA job fair, but it looks like you can't attached a file here? I can email it to you if need be. It should answer most if not all of your questions.

Can you PM it to me too, please? Thanks!

Default UAL/CO Hiring?

Miami job fair had 500 pilots look at united and only 50 or so for the regional day. As you can see the regional pool is drying up quick.

I understand if you've had a lot of requests for this, but would you be willing to PM that to me as well? Thank you for your time!

The memo was dated Sept 2012 and had been posted somewhere on the board last year. Here it is:

Questions and Answers

Is United planning to hire in 2012 and 2013?

Yes. Until a joint collective bargaining agreement (JCBA) and an integrated seniority list (ISL) are implemented, legacy Continental Airlines (L-CAL) has a need for additional pilots. Class starts as early as November of 2012 are presently available.

Does United still have pilots on furlough?

Yes. Legacy United Airlines (L-UAL) has not yet recalled any pilots who were furloughed in 2008. All pilots on this list have been offered class dates at L-CAL, however. It was their option to accept the position, and it remains their option to rejoin the hiring process at any time they wish.

Whose contract and seniority list would I fall on?

All pilots hired before the JCBA and ISL are implemented would work under the terms of the L-CAL collective bargaining agreement and would be placed on the L-CAL seniority list.

What aircraft and bases can new hires expect?

We are filling vacancies on the 737 in Newark, Houston, Cleveland and Guam. We also are filling vacancies on the 757/767 fleet in Newark and Houston.

Could a new hire get assigned to Guam?

Yes. Our Pacific operation is a critical element of our global network. Pilots staffed in Guam have a unique opportunity to fly throughout Micronesia and Asia. This is a 737 base only and could be assigned to any class.

I was hired by United or Continental in 2008, but never started class. Am I still eligible?

Yes. Pilots who received employment offers have been identified and will be contacted first for consideration with the new United Airlines.

I had an interview scheduled with United or Continental in 2008 that cancelled. Am I still eligible?

Pilots in this situation will be considered for processing based on the competitiveness of their qualifications by comparison to other applicants.

Where do I apply for a position at United?

We will be using AirlineApps.com going forward. Pilots who previously applied to United Airlines will need to reapply through AirlineApps.com.

I have a Continental application already on file with AirlineApps.com. Do I need to reapply?

No. We are updating portions of the application, and will communicate with you directly if you need to update a portion of your application.

What will the hiring process look like for the new United?

We will be combining best practices from both legacy airlines in our new process. Qualified applicants will be invited to take an online assessment first. Competitive applicants will then participate in a brief telephone screening. Applicants who continue to meet the desired criteria will then be invited to participate in a simulator evaluation and a panel interview at one of our training centers located in Denver or Houston.

What is the timeframe for hiring at United?

We will begin reviewing applications next week, and selecting candidates for interviews in the coming months to fill positions in 2012 and 2013.

How much hiring are you planning to do?

Our total numbers are dependent first on the decisions of the currently furloughed United pilots. They will always be given first preference for any class offering. Remaining positions will be filled by new-hire pilots from outside the company. As this number is unknown, we cannot project with certainty the total number of new hires. We are planning to fill 230 positions from January to May of 2013.

How will my seniority work if I am hired?

A pilot hired from outside of the company will be placed on the L-CAL seniority list junior to any furloughed United pilot who accepts a class date regardless of when that furloughed United pilot comes to training.

What do retirements look like at United?

United will retire almost 4,000 pilots in the next 10 years, and by 2026 will retire 50% of those currently on the seniority lists.

What are minimum qualifications?

Minimum qualifications are being evaluated and will be posted on AirlineApps.com when they are finalized. Our most competitive candidates will have a combination of experience and qualifications that best fits the needs of the world’s leading airline.

Why should I consider United Airlines?

United is the world’s leading airline and is focused on being the airline customers want to fly, the airline employees want to work for and the airline shareholders want to invest in. Highlights of United Airlines include:
 World’s most comprehensive global route network, including world-class international gateways to Asia and Australia, Europe, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East with non-stop or one-stop service from virtually anywhere in the United States
 A modern fleet which is the most fuel efficient (when adjusted for cabin size), and the best current aircraft order book among U.S. network carriers
 Industry-leading loyalty program that provides more opportunities to earn and redeem miles worldwide
 Optimal hub locations in 10 cities, including hubs in the four largest cities in the United States
 Rated the world’s most admired airline on FORTUNE magazine’s 2012 airline-industry list of the World’s Most Admired Companies

From CV.

47% of the new UAL retires in 10 years.

76% retires in 15 years.

Do the math.
