Interview Invitation
Not looking for negative crap from people. I just accepted an interview invitation from American Eagle and I am looking for good gouge to prep for it. It is my first interview since joining the RCAF 23 yrs ago. No experience with Airline interview process. Yes I have 4000+ hours but I realize that means nothing if you do not have the right attitude nor the correct FAA knowledge. I have only spent years flying in the US and an trying to get up to speed. Just looking for advice.

Google "American Eagle interview gouge" and variations of that theme and you will find all kinds of very detailed posts on several web sites. There is an astonishing amount of info out there, some dating back several years, and you will be able to see the common thread that runs through them.
Good luck! One of my buddies just got on with AE. |

Willflyforfod had some great and very accurate points when I interviewed a few years back.
Just make sure your paper work and logbook are exactly as you state it is .failed check rides etc. I interviewed with 12 people and only 3 of us made it to the end and most people who got booted were gone within the first 30 Mins due to some paperwork error . Good luck |
Well done mate keep it up.

Agreed...I would toss a few bucks to Aviationinterviews.com. I interviewed at Eagle and here is what I put down...
Gouge was solid. Definitely make sure you are up to date with your Jepps knowledge, very straight forward questions, but I am mostly military flying, so that was my first time actually holding Jepps in my hand. MEA, MOCA, MORA, standard airfield stuff, how to find departure mins, etc...know it and weather METAR TAFs and the tech portion is a snap. HR was exactly what is available in the gouge. Don't be an egotistical d-bag and things are very smooth. Sim was a piece of cake, though I can't even recall the last time I had to proceed direct to a VOR for holding. I had "packet B" and was sent memorization items (MANDATORY to know) with profiles and call-outs. Took me an hour or so to absorb that...cakewalk, some V speeds and ops limits and one boldface. Sim is very easy to fly, the throttles are not necessarily touchy, just that the majority of the power difference is at the bottom range of the movement and it's a little uncomfortable to fine tune. All the flight director modes are available except for auto pilot, just let them know what to select (heading, course, speed, alts and modes). I was the only guy who showed up and things progressed very quickly...after completely ganking the PSA test last week, it was nice to roll in and get a one shot, one kill ending to the day. |

Very laid back, quite easy and the pilots doing the interview were great. Really, really nice guys. |
Thank you for the responses.
Thank your input. I have audited my log book to make sure everything is accurate. Unfortunately, I don't log (due to RCAF rules) everything in a manner that is easily to extract, ie cross-country time and PIC when we are both qualified on type. So I just estimated my time. I will go thru the gouge and study hard, especially the Jepps. I know that I am a good pilot and I don't have a big ego. I am willing to learn. I hope I can convey that in the interview.
Thank you for your inputs. Tiger |
Tiger,
Hope it goes well. Let us know. Be sure to update the forum with the latest information. Much appreciated and good luck. |
Got the Pre job offer
Hey everyone, they offered me a job. The gouge on aviation interviews was spot on. Hardest part was the Jepps review since even though I studied, my lack of experience with them showed. The interviewer was great and seemed to understand that I new my dod and icao charts well, it was just a matter of using the charts more to learn them. I also used a trick that I learned a long time ago. I have a lot of photos from my military experience in my log book and it gave them something else to talk about besides quizzing me. 5 showed up, 1 corporate pilot, 1 small twin corporate female pilot, a Colombian pilot with what I thought was a lot of experience, a USAF C130 pilot and myself. The corporate guy was gone in 15 mins, I guess it was paperwork issue. The female was gone after the HR and tech portion and so was the Columbian. The USAF guy I were offered jobs. I got the feeling at the end of the day that these guys can tell from the beginning whether or not they are going to hire. Just don't shoot yourself in the foot by not preparing or being an ass. As stated above, the interviewers were relaxed and super friendly. The process was a lot less stressful than I expected. Hopefully if what they say is true, I will have a class date in 2-3 weeks and start right away.
Thanks for all of the help. |
