Dallas Job Fair
I'm sure this is a long shot, but who cares.
I was originally on a trip that weekend, so I wasn't going to attend. My trip now just happens to be in Dallas, but I have a late afternoon departure out of Dallas that Saturday. I just bought a ticket to job fair and my number is 268. If anyone in the lower numbers, 75 or below and would be willing to trade me, I will reimburse you for the $104 cost of admission. Assuming that Scott and ACS is all warm and peachy with this…If there are any takers, send me a PM. Thanks, |
Hey man I don't know if I am misreading this, but you do know the job fair is Friday and not on Saturday.
Ha, thanks for reading my message. No, I looked at calandra wrong and was set on it being Saturday. That would have sucked!!! Time to rearrange some plans now!
Don't worry I didn't have the day off so I did not buy a ticket at first. But know I have the day off and they are all sold out for Spirit. So I was hoping your message was about you selling your ticket. Well good luck and hope you get plans settled and get to attend.
If something changes, I'll let you know.
Yea if you can't go and need to sell your ticket let me know. I should have just bought one and then worked my schedule around the fair, but its to late now. Good luck on getting that day off.
I've got #46 and my plans have changed. Won't be attending and I'm willing to transfer it. I've been posting tonight to get my count up for PM's. Try me.
If anyone else had planned on going but is not going to be able to make it, please let me know via PM. Trying to get in on this one.
Does anyone know if it is appropriate to bring letters of recommendation to the job fair?

Im unable to make the fair and will sell my ticket cheap. If anyone is interested post up
What's your spot number?
DFW job fair was a great experience. Best of luck to everyone who attended.

It looks like that the job fair in Dallas yesterday had 300 pilots interviewing for Spirit Airlines. Spirit had 6 recruiters trying to interview 40 pilots per hour. On the regional side there were 35 register people, but only 25 showed up.
P.S. My numbers may not be exact . |

Thanks for the information. Edit: As I thought about this some more, I imagine most guys getting hired on at regionals are simply applying, not doing the job fair circuit. Maybe your coworker spoke to the attending regional folks and got an idea of applications the regionals are getting, e.g., lots, some, not enough. ???
Kind of sad for the regionals... not many folks there for them!

I was there too...the room with the regional booths was sparse and pretty much empty once lunch came and went. I think more people would consider them if they would pay a livable wage ($40-60/hr for FOs and $90-120/hr for CAs). That pay model worked fine when they could hire college grads with 1000 hours of ASEL time, but given the requirements to have an ATP and the movement at the majors, few pilots who are qualified to fly 121 would be willing to fly for $20,000 a year anymore.
Thanks for your replies. I'd love to see the regionals have a more sustainable compensation package. Something that will make the sacrifices more worth while, and keeps the training pipelines more full. I really felt leaving the door open to 250 hour fresh commercials at the regionals allowed the proverbial can to get kicked down the road further. Maybe the ATP rule will make it that the compensation issue must be addressed, and not simply put off to another day because it is easier to lower minimums.

I attended this Job Fair since i live in DFW. I was impressed with the professionalism and courtesy to the few recruiters i had a chance to talk to. Whether there is going to be a pilot shortage or not i will not debate that topic. However i do believe based on the information that was given to me that there is something looming over the horizon.

It is not sad, it's GREAT and it's a start! Why would someone pay $104 to attend a regional job fair for a job paying poverty level wage???
It's pretty sad when someone can live off the government and make more money than a regional pilot. Just saying......I'm glad they will have a shortage we'll get back to supply and demand. Less supply and greater demand will either end the regional company or they will have to pay to play. It's about time.
