Interview Prep

Hey has anyone done the online interview prep with Aldie? Is it worth while, and is it true that at a later date you can attend a seminar in person without paying any additional fees?

744fo 11-20-2013 08:29 AM

I used them for in in-person seminar in 2006 and I was blown away by what I didn't know. We all have good stories but the trick is to get them out of your head in a clear, concise manner. They are good at that.

Do they have the ability to stick a device in my head to download the stories, just trying to remember is half the battle. lol

Hueypilot 11-20-2013 02:43 PM

Actually, it's knowing is half the battle.

You're welcome.

I just did prep with Albie this summer. Quality program at a reasonable price with money back guarantee as well as follow up refreshers as required. I thought it was worth the money and well worth my time.

roofl 11-21-2013 09:40 AM

Albie's Emerald Coast Seminar was definitely worthwhile for me. You don't want the first time you tell a story or answer an HR question to be in front of the actual Panel team on interview day. Learned a lot of what not to say. Refreshers are free.

spyinthesky 11-22-2013 03:13 PM

Albie's seminar was great. But what are you all studying for the technical/reg. portions? I am a military pilot that has had a nav so long I never need to do math. This also means I am unfamiliar with part 121 issues.

There's gouge for the DAL stuff, and I believe Spirit tests using the ATP question bank. Go to FTI or HPA for the sim, they have a pretty good idea what the companies that use a sim profile are looking for. The psych/personality tests can't be studied for, you either do or don't with them, and don't try to game it either. Some people say luminosity.com can help with the cognitive tests.

I'm doing ECIC next month...listening to the audio is already teaching me a ton.

I used Cage, $375. What prices are the others going for? Had a really great experience with them.

hangingon 03-24-2014 04:19 PM

Emerald Coast. Anyone that doesn't do some kind of prep will be noticed. His place has it down to a science. I would recommend them to anyone.

JimmyJr3 04-01-2014 02:36 AM

are there different interview prep companies that have a reputation for being geared toward specific company's interivew processes? If so can somebody shed some light?

US Airways?
AA?
Delta?
United,...etc??

I'm primarily interested in US Airways specific prep, but curious about all.

fishforfun 04-01-2014 04:44 AM

Anyone doing the 25 April course in Orlando with Emerald?

northermn 04-01-2014 05:15 AM

I used Cage Consulting for a recent United interview. I would highly recommend them.

F15Cricket 04-07-2014 10:45 PM

I used Lori Clark at Airline Pilot Interview Preparation. World class, 10 hours of one-on-one via VOIP. I had no surprise questions in my interview ... got hired! I highly recommend Lori's interview prep.

romeobravo78 04-09-2014 03:09 PM

+1 for Emerald Coast. Aaron does a great job, as does his staff of interviewers.

+1. This is a first rate interview prep.

TheCaseHD 04-11-2014 05:38 AM

+1 for Emerald Coast Consulting. Emerald Coast Interview Consulting

I did the online prep and found it very helpful. There is a significant amount of self study though. They help you with the types of questions to be prepared for.

For technical review: Everything Explained for the Professional Pilot; and the Jeppesen intro pages concerning all symbols, en-route maps, and approach plates, etc.

captkdobbs 04-11-2014 08:05 AM

Cheryl Cage's Checklist for Success is awesome for every interview (especially for developing 'your stories' and avoiding common interview faux pas)
The old AIR Inc. book Questions, questions is good as well.
The best part of any interview prep service is the face-to-face or video evaluations. If you can get someone to video you answering questions it speaks volumes. You'll realize little ticks or quirks that you never knew you had. It also will tell you your strong points as well.

whatbetterjob 04-25-2014 09:55 AM

I second Lori Clark. Really personable and to the point on the prep. Even the questions she asked in the second session were verbatim on the interview

From what I gathered doing Emerald today that when you get that offer for an interview they do a follow up for a airline specific refresher.

Is it ever too early to use ECIC? I won't be getting out of the Navy for about two more years but I see that ECIC is coming to Norfolk in May. I understand that it won't be a one time thing and I'll use them again when I get closer to getting out/an actual interview. I also don't want to take a seat away from someone who really needs it.

gr8vu 04-30-2014 03:41 PM

Albie has a great timeline discussion in his square corners post that starts 1 to 2 years out. Don't wait until last minute like many do.

I am 18 months from my potential out date as well and couldn't pass up the opportunity to do the course in person in Orlando. I think it is well worth it to do it now. I wanted to start attending job fairs but didn't want to do that until doing the interview prep. Because you can do follow ups with them and sit in on the classes again I think its worth doing it.

potentially separating from Active Duty in the next few months...For ECIC...does flying somewhere to do an in person session far outweigh the online sessions?

Tough question to answer as anyone who has done both would have the experience of the second one tainted by the first. No one could give you a neutral/objective comparison of the experiences.

I did it in person. Sitting in a room full of your peers answering questions is priceless. It's hard to BS a room full of people, much less Albie. I did mine with my CO and another pilot from my squadron listening. Also, listening to others helps you come up with new/better/different ideas for your own answers.

If you have the time, do it in person and use the phone prep to refresh. If you are pressed for time (interview before the next in-person session), make the call.

WARich 05-06-2014 03:46 PM

I did the online prep, plus the follow up call to prep and felt prepared. So if you can't make it to an in person seminar I still believe you can get prepped via the online means.

Actually, I thoroughly enjoyed the online prep. I attended 2 online preps plus a phone consult and felt extremely prepared for my interview. You still have 5 other people staring at you through the computer screen + more listening. It probably doesn't create as much stress as if you were in person, but I felt comfortable with my experience.

If I were conveniently aligned to go to attend a prep, in person, I would. But the online preps are great and are very convenient.

*Note: I did NOT attend a prep, in person.

thanks for the feedback

Longtime lurker; first-time poster. Curious if anyone has any recommendations for companies that do interview prep for Alaska Airlines? I've read of Rainier Flight Services and ATC Seattle, but the information is dated. Thanks.

FF49, I used Lori Clark at Airline Pilot Interview Preparation. Interviewed in March with AS, got hired. Great prep--biggest thing I learned was to be yourself. I was actually relaxed during the interview, and there were no surprises. AS is a class act during the interview process, and I'm excited to start working!

FYI, I am friends with Albie (ECIC) from back in our USAF days, and he does great work, too. They have different methods, and Lori's was more what I was looking for. She and I had two 5-hour one-on-one sessions via VOIP. Emerald Coast, from what I understand, is an 8 hour in-person seminar (or phone, if you can't make the seminar), with about 10 other people like yourself. The advantage of ECIC is it gives you other folks to bounce stories off of. The thing that swayed me to go with Lori's prep was the one-on-one time ... she really grilled me with lots and lots of questions.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

Flyfish49 05-10-2014 10:35 AM

F15Cricket, congratulations getting hired on with AS! It's encouraging to hear the process was a class act. Thank you very much for your prompt and thoughtful response. I'm looking for the one-on-one time as well, so I'll be following up on your recommendation.

Cricket,

Glad to hear about your success, but you are off the mark with your description of ECIC. We do offer seminars, but included in our service is follow up one on one interview work via phone, Skype, on with online meeting software. You can also attend any follow up session or online session at no charge. In other words…you get the seminar AND the one on one time. "Once a client, always a client" is our policy. Hate to sound like I am a shrill here but the info you put out was inaccurate and misleading.

e6bpilot 05-11-2014 06:07 AM

Agree, I did the seminar with ECIC back in October because they were in town and I had heard good things from other dudes. When I got an interview invite 6 months later, I sent a note to Mary and had a one on one phone session that lasted about an hour and a half. It gave me the confidence and fine tuning I needed to get the job. Great product and well worth the money. If I need them again, I plan on calling on them.
I would say the important thing is to just get some sort of interview prep, whatever the source. Had I gone in there without it, it would not have gone so well.

Sorry, bro, no inaccuracy or misleading intended ... was only due to my ignorance! You do great work, for sure, as testified to by many folks! In fact, it was a tough choice to not use you!

Lori is also a class act, so there are good options for all the folks out there seeking to learn how to interview.

Dragon7 05-12-2014 06:58 AM

Posted this a few times, but do the prep somewhere. True that some people can succeed without it, but chances are you won't. I couldn't have.

Liked the audio files ECIC sends you to review before you attend seminar. Liked the face to faces with Mary and Albie answering interview questions with your peers watching, listening, and critiquing. As good a simulation of real interview pressure as i experienced. The methodology and philosophy of the method ECIC teaches works. Have used the "get out your wallet" step already on the line dealing with a real issue.

My favorite parts of ECIC are the ability to plug back in at a later date when you need it and the network you access. I used the audio files and a one on one phone call to brush up before a different interview. Have stayed in contact with seminar mates and run into some of them on the line. We all feedback to each other and to ECIC.

YMMV but 2 for 2 on interviews after ECIC.

ogilthorpe 05-12-2014 11:16 AM

Someone asked about Rainier in Seattle for prepping with ALK. I don't know anyone who has used it, put when I spoke with Will M. at a job fair a few months ago he mentioned that people who prepped there have had the most successful interviews lately. Seems like a solid recommendation.

Didn't do any sim or interview prep. Never flew an airplane larger than an A-10. That said, do the prep!

ECIC & Albie's team does a great job....got me SWA & US Airways & Skywest offers! ...and I felt prepped for Delta if they had called...

Does anyone know if ECIC covers operators such as Atlas?
