sucks they still want dual qualified guys, should have tried harder when they only wanted fixed wing.

I just scanned the announcement. Did you see where it said they were only interested in dual-qualed guys?
I do know that if you are dual qual'ed that you can score much higher than a FW background guy, but maybe the hiring is opening up pretty good now that sequestration and gov't hiring freezes have ended (at least for some agencies).

In any case - good luck to those that would apply and I hope you'll come back and share you stories on this thread or the others.

1. Current FAA Commercial Pilot Certification with the following ratings: Rotorcraft helicopter with instrument rating and Airplane (Single-engine land or Multi-engine land) with instrument rating; or Rotorcraft helicopter with instrument rating. Appropriate U.S. military ratings may be substituted. Other certificates that meet or exceed the requirements of the Commercial Pilot Certificate are also acceptable (e.g. Airline Transport Pilot Certificate).

I quit reading that part after Commercial Pilot Certification.....

I've not been following these as closely since I retired and knew that I couldn't complete the training; but has this requirement been in place long? I ask because I knew a few guys hired without any dual qualifications and one hired (hello...still on the boards Rolex?) with both who of course scored very highly on the points total because he had been a former USN helo guy turned FW tactical guy.

With more places hiring now I know the pool of pilots wanting to fly at CBP will be smaller. Maybe they won't be able to hang on that dual qual for very long.

Dual rated buddy of mine was turned down well into the interview process... so there must be enough of them out there. Sounds like a great career path overall. He was pretty bummed.

And you will get violated during the polygraph before you ever have a chance to formally interview.... Not worth it with all the majors hiring. Got a bunch of friends at CBP who hate it it, oh yeah and they fly about 5 hrs a month

Continuing to serve your country in what at least some consider to be important work isn't worth it?

Not everyone wants to fly for an airline.

I'm sorry to hear that your friends don't like it and are inly flying 5 hrs a month.
I haven't talked to my contacts of late, but last I checked with them they were flying a lot and enjoying the heck out of it.

If job satisfaction is important, maybe pits should read more posts from airline pilots. If you believe these forums it seems most are not satisfied with their jobs(or are just whinny!)

Know what you are getting into and the job you are taking on if you apply.
Of course this should be common sense for any job but....
