They're fishing for retired Air Force and Navy test pilots who were involved with flight testing in the service. There appear not to be many around. Occasionally an industry-grown T-P candidate appears on the market but those are pretty rare and they tend to stick with whatever company makes them into a test pilot. I know a couple of the latter who jumped ship, and the reason for leaving are usually pretty wild- like company bankruptcy or the cert program was canceled. There is also a small number who come to the US with prior foreign military FT experience and not a lot of those exist here either. It's a tough field to get into no matter which angle you take. What impresses me is that not enough stay in any one job to keep these ads from running all the time.
