Thanks for the response!
So you can opt for the commuting contract and still live in Japan.. that is excellent! I see what you are saying about the trips. 1/2/3 days, maybe 5 legs a day, 12hr overnights.. Thats good. But how does it work on a commuting contract exactly? I read that the commuting contract is 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. Does that mean you literally fly everyday 14 days in a row or is it spaced out somehow? How does that work?

Are there any travel benefits at all? Can you jumpseat or fly standby on Ibex or ANA flights within Japan?

Hi Bramble

Commuter gets a 10 day Block of days off each month... You may request those days any where in the month. If at the end of one month and the front of the following you could have 20 days off block...

During the month you will be scheduled for "BD" a blank day which is a duty free day... So every 4/5 days you will have a blank day... So during a month you will normally work 15/16 days including stby... We do have a 1 in 7 requirement and a BD counts as a day off for that requirement...

You can also request VA in any increment, 20 if you had a 20 day block you could add VA days to make it up to 30 days... They don't like people taking more than 30 days off in a row...

Bramble

Jumpseat is for Company use only... So you may not use the JS for personal travel...

Non rev is like this, 10 EF and 10 ID 90s a year per FAMILY... ANA owns 80% of the seast IBEX 20%... So if you request a EF ticket and IBEX has sold all their seats you may not board, even if ANA seats are empty... The same Flight if you buy a ANA ID90 you may board... The ID 90s on ANA are ONLY for ANA flights "Operated" by IBEX... Some of the Crew Lease Companies have the non-rev section written leading you to believe you get 10 ID 90's on ANA, but it is ONLY ANA flights operated by IBEX...

Sorry I don't have better news there... Both the Local employees and other Expats have asked for this benefit to be improved... We all hope one day...

Hey Guys & Gals

Just to let any CRJ Captains interested in flying in Japan know, IBEX plans to hold screenings in Sep 2018 for a Nov 2018 start... I know it is a ways out but just thought I would post the info... RJ14 arrived bringing the fleet to 10 -700s... Reason for hiring due to Mandatory Retirements and younger people moving to Bus and Boeing jobs in Japan and Asia... QOL is good pay pack a little lite but okay... The water is fine, come on in...

Hey Guys

Just a update... TWI Aviation has new owners and manager... Company is now owned my Longreach and both owners are pilots and the new manager is also a pilot... TOTALLY different attitudes and beliefs than that of the previous owner/manager... Briefed on changes to come and the difference in attitudes should make TWIA the preferred Lease company at IBEX... Very excited about the new management and changes to come... Check back in 60 days and I will confirm my beliefs...

Any CRJ drivers looking for a change, IBEX should be screening again first part of 2019... More mandatory retirements coming in the next 9 months and several young Captains heading to the Airbus... Good Flt Ops management, GREAT people and a good QOL for both Commuters and Non-commuters... Come on in the water is fine...

Just curious, is new management planning on improving the rates for commuters to be more in line with the greater Asian contractor pay rates? Seems like a half decent gig, but not the kind to attract expats solely on pay.

Sounds like one would have to be interested in relocating and calling Japan home and put a lot of weight to that in the “pie chart” of QOL?

Cheers

Hey Blue

The rates of pay and allowances are set by the Airline... So regardless of Lease Company the rates are the same... However each lease company may offer additional benefits which they pay for out of their commission... Example travel/Intl insurance... Wire transfers and such...

In the past TWIA offered no Intl Insurance and refused to even consider it, where as the other two Lease Companies did... Past TWIA was unwilling to negotiate and the owner's only word was NO... New Management is sure lets see what we can do, tell us what you need and want and we will try and make it happen...

Yes the rates of pay through out Japan are lower than the offerings else where... If you look at Japan, Taiwan and Korea they are stuck in the rates of 10 years ago...

IBEX has offered some increases over the past 4 years to get up to Par in Japan... The "Package" is a little lite but okay due to being a "net" contract now... If you compare the bring home pay compared to a small jet operator in the USA the amount is quite a bit more... Just my 10 yen worth...

One additional note... The Lease Companies often show the Airline what the market is doing around the region with regard to drivers and packages... The "New" TWIA folks have many Chinese Contracts so they can show "real" numbers to IBEX management... Not that it will make much difference but it allows them to see why drivers are going else where...

Hey Guys and Gals

IBEX will be holding screenings 26/27 Aug for a est start date of 11 Nov... Screenings will be held in Tokyo/ HND at the FSI facility at HND... Screening is one day and includes a interview and sim eval...

IBEX is still a good little Company... We currently have 9 expat Captains and all F/Os are Japanese... Fleet is 10 CRJ-700s with 9 lines of flying and one spare aircraft...

T&C are available thru the Crew Lease Companies... 3 Leasing agencies... TWI Aviation/Longreach, Rishworth and IAC... TWI Avn is now under new Management and IMHO are now the best agency hands down...

All in this thread is still valid except for T&C... Has been 2 enhancements since it was started... Any CRJ Captains looking to fly in Japan or just a change of pace come on over... QOL is good, over all package okay, Management excellent and the people are GREAT...

Any questions please post and I will answer as soon as I can... Will take PMs too...

Thank you JP. Very kind of you to post job info for people looking for a change. If I may; four years is a long time though and U.S. regionals are paying more than the contract I attached here. Just look up TWI Aviation if it gets removed. Training is brutal! I think it’s six months if you are already rated and up to 9 if not? Japan is not cheap either. The Dash 8 400 job at ANA wings pay better? Just FYI not an attack on your post. If I am off please correct the info.
