Obtaining PIC prop turbine before regionals
 

I have about 1500 hours total time and only about 57 multi with only 10 of that pic multi. I heard the majors like seeing 1000 turbine pic. Would it be wise to obtain 1000 pic turbine prop before going to a 121 regional and getting the jet time to keep the resume competitive for the majors considering i could be sitting right seat in the regionals for a few years?

I got my 1000 turbine pic before going 121. I did it in props then another 700 pic in biz jets before going to the airlines. That being said, I know because i had the 1000+ pic turbine time, it was a large factor of being hired. Getting turbine pic time is valuable no matter how you slice it. I have fiends at regionals that have been sic's for many years and havent logged pic since a cessna or seminole. most dont have more than 500-1000 pic total. for me it worked out for some reason.... I would suggest get pic turbine, make a livable wage ,and dont commute. you will be much happier, in my own opinion. Good luck

PIC turbine, while not required at most places anymore, is still highly valuable.

That said, it can take quite a whole to build the 1000 TPIC in many non-airline gigs. Consider the time cost and evaluate from there.

Ameriflight is a good place to build TPIC, but it would take at least a couple years to do it.

Depends on your base. I built ~600, and I've only been at amflight for 10 months.

When I was there I was on runs that allowed me to build close to 1000 per year. Not sure if they have those runs anymore? I think the Bank stuff is gone.

You can build TPIC quickly and have zero QoL, or you can decent QoL and built TPIC slowly. Take your pick. Personally, if 121 is your goal, I don't see a reason to go to AMF.

Hey guys thanks! the only reason I'm asking is because i have the minimums to go to a 121 carrier, but i heard great lakes is hiring and its a fast upgrade there, would it be worth going there just to get pic turbine till i get a 1000 and then move on to a 121 carrier afterwards? It would be an extra step, going from one regional to another and extra time, but would it be worth it?

Depends on what you can handle. Plan on zero QOL and questionable prospects for the company staying afloat for now...which also makes that upgrade less and less of a sure thing.

I went to GLA and it "worked" for me, was able to build my time and get out relatively quickly. Just make sure you consider what you will do if it's tougher than you thought or the upgrade is longer than planned.

Make sure you're flying something with substance. Flying a turbine bonanza or a 208 is nearly worthless in the eye of the "1000" PIC turbine. Try to get a gig flying something with two engines.
