Hello,

Im attending the WIA conference in March. This will be the first job fair iv ever attended and was curious to see what its like when you speak with the recruiters. Is it more of a get to know you type thing or straight up TMAAT questions? Do I need to bring anything other than a resume and cover letter? Any info would be appreciated!

I have attended many job fairs and also was lucky enough to work a few of them, what you said was correct. Resume and cover letter , most won't want a cover letter cause it's just too much to keep when your accepting 1000 of them in a day.

As far as the recruiter goes , be your self and humble and explain why you want to work for xyz airline , keep this in mind while talking to these guys, they are gonna be talking to 400 guys just like you, who have resumes just like yours or even better. ASK questions about what's going on but also be informed on the airline yourself , know the bases they have and aka if any changes are being rumored etc , do a little research before you go on that airline, get the recruiter to like you and remember you, and keep in mind it doesn't matter what you talk about with these guys it's just important to keep the conversation going long enough to make a impression. Don't be overwhelmed by how many guys are there in suits doing exactly what your doing, I remember going to my first few and man it was almost depressing and overwhelming. Don't be the guy who looks down with his tail between his legs that appears to be shy and with shaky hands while handing over your resume , be grateful keep your manners in and go in and kill it , while getting the job you want .

I'll be there too, and this is my first job fair as well. From what I've heard it's a quick get to know you: "tell me about yourself", "why this airline" and some TMAAT stuff. But like I said, it's my first rodeo too. I'm excited to be there, hopefully some face time will help get the phone to ring but either way I've been told it's a great conference and good place for networking.

I'd do a little research on the company and have a small spiel about why you would be a good fit and why you want to work there. I remember AA would start off with, "Tell me a story". Not sure if they still are but it caught a lot of people off guard.

The job fairs that I have gone to start in the late morning, I usually jumpseat out, do my thing, then go back in the evening, don't see the need to get a hotel room unless there is no way that you can get there in time. It'll save you some extra cash from what seems to be a scheme to pay to beg for a job.

A lot of the time you'll only spend a few minutes to talk to the representatives of your target company. For me, I've handed them my resume and then only to be asked "Did you complete the application online? If not then do that when you get home." $120 for a 2 minute conversation

What sled14 said. Have a small plan of attack for each airline and spend a little time before hand digging up a few things on each company. Many recruiters will be writing all over your resume after you leave giving a thumbs up or down. Each airline has a different process, but most who attend feel it's worth while.

I'd love to go to the WAI 2015, but cannot make it. what have you guys used to find these conferences? I know of OPAB, WAI, and NGPA. Unfortunately im going to miss 2 of these and possibly all of them for 2015. Are there any others? Im interested in the Majors

Paying money for a job fair, way to hold a standard guys! Soon its gonna cost $1000 bucks to interview once the rest of the airlines find out there is dips hits out there paying to jobfair.
