Job Market
 

I graduated from Virginia Tech last December and I've been working in Richmond since. I'm on the verge of saying forget the office and changing directions. I have several flight schools in mind.

If I get into aviation and find myself sitting around without a job, I'll feel like a fool. For the peeps out there in the thick of it right now, what would you say? Stick with the corporate scene or take to the skys? What's the outlook in the av market? Future there? or am I just being romantic!?

Good jobs are always available. You just have to be willing to relocate to get them. The days of the $200,000 plus airline captain are over with a few exceptions. If you can be happy topping out in the low 100s that is a realistic figure.

You have to do this because you love it otherwise you'll always be second guessing your decision.

There are jobs out there. Whether or not its a good job depends on your definiton of good. Pay, schedule and benefits are getiing worse at a lot of places.
Typhoon's right on the money when he says you do it because you love it. If you do it for any other reason you'll end up disappointed and miserable.

Now that you have had a chance to do the 9-5 scene think about doing it for the next 35-40 years..... you know the only flying job isn't working for the airlines.... theres plenty of jobs flying for Uncle Sam and there are very good corporate jobs as well.... whatever you do, think in the "long term".....

Dude, you've gotta give it a try. I lived the cubicle/office nightmare for 10 years after college (approximately 9 1/2 yrs too long). I was 32 before I had the balls to drop everything and go flying.

Three years later I'm in the right seat of a regional jet, hopefully on the way to a decent flying career. I make about 1/4 what I made before and haven't regretted my decision for one second.

Do it now before you do something irrational like get married or have kids ;)
