Korean Airlines
It's about time. Korean Airlines is finally going to start recruiting on the 777 and A330. They just hired 12 747-400 skippers as well. It's one of the oldest and best contracts going. There are a variety of contractors who supply to them so look at Euro Pacific, Best, and CCL.
For those who aren't aware of their set-up they offer basing wherever they fly with 9 days off per month in base. In other words, the travel time to and from your base is on them. With vacation you can average 11 days off per month at home.
The A330 is the better schedule as they do less long haul. The 777 drivers work their buts off for the time they are in Korea with multiple Pacific crossings.
It is a 5 year contract.

Annyoung ha sae yo!
Do you know if Korean Air hires First Officers? I was born in Korea and lived half my life there and would love to go back and fly for Korean Air (was always my childhood dream).
I am currently a regional FO doing my best to build experience in hopes of getting on with KAL in the future.
Any information would help.
Thanks
Stephen

i had a former neighbor who was an MD-11 captain for KAL. he said the hostility against the round-eyes is not concealed. he did his 5 years and then went somewhere else.
the asian airlines, for the most part, do not like to acknowledge the ex-pats who fly for them.
i have a different friend who retired after over 30 years with JAL. about the time he retired, JAL put out a gorgeous coffee-table book about the history of the airline. there was not a single mention of the americans who essentially created and maintained the airline nor was there a single photo of any non-japanese pilot, mechanic, etc anywhere in the entire book.
also, 9 days off at home isn't that great a deal.

I haven't heard anything about KAL but I imagine it's pretty much the same treatment as JAL. I heard there were several complaints to CAL about the treatment of gaijin in NRT. I was non revving once and when I got bumped the JAL gate agents ripped up my boarding pass in my face.
however, when I was there in 2004 it seemed like they had gotten a bit nicer.

i used to commute to both guam and manila through NRT and i never had any problems. they can be very rigid but as long as i could get to the captain i never had any trouble, but i was dealing with NW and CO people, not JAL.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I understand I am very young in this industry. But, for whatever it's worth, I hope to take the advice and experience of others and try to be a solution and not add to the already existing problems in the industry.
happy holidays!
