Ultimately, every lifer I would assume would eventually end up a captain, just from seniority. If half your pilots were lifers, ultimately FO upgrades to captain would have to stop altogether. And even lesser numbers of captain lifers (say 20% of the captains) would mean you had 50% of the pilots (FOs) waiting for the attrition from the other 80% of the captains (40% of total pilots). How could that NOT slow down career progression, since part of career progression requirements in many majors is that coveted TPIC? Again, not picking on QX, just spouting queuing theory. |
