PHX commute
Phoenix CFI here. Starting to look at options as far as regionals, if only casually. Everyone screams to steer clear of Mesa, and meanwhile Compass has a small PHX base but it seems like they may not be hiring and PHX is getting more senior for them.
That said, Horizon seems like a decent place for a West Coast base, if not PHX. Anybody commute from PHX? Since Horizon isn’t affiliated with the AAL/DAL/UAL/SWA, are you pretty much restricted to CASS if you can’t get on either of the two AAG flights out of PHX?

Lots of SWA commuters on that route... if your goal is a Major. Mesa isn’t bad for a get in. Get your time get out.. it keeps you uncomfortable wanting to stay there, so motivation to get out...Hardest part about a SEA commute right now is the construction/flow delays...

Horizon doesn’t have a good commuter policy. Commuter clause only applies if you list with Alaska flights and offer no 4 nights stay at hotel like Compass does. There’s not much benefit for you to choose to commute for Horizon over Compass and Mesa. Buncha sitting during the reserve period without flying. You can pick up open flights at Mesa and make bank. Or fly with Compass even tho you may have to commute to LAX initially, which is only an hour away oppose to 2.5 hours to SEA or even more if it’s BOI or MFR.
