Picking up extra trips
How easy/common is it for a new E-175 f/o to pick up extra flights? If you can, is it at regular pay, and or critical 150/200% pay, or a combination?
What is the average number of hours over the min guarantee that people pick up?
Thank you.

I'm in the Q400. We've had very little open time available, other than a few last-minute CDO's or premium pay sim support sessions. The jet is way overstaffed in comparison with the Q. I doubt if there's much available. The jet check airmen and sim instructors are still pretty busy, but most of the FO's aren't doing much. Any open time can be easily covered by reserves.
As for picking up open time, some of the trips pay 100% and others pay premium, at 150%. We had some for 200% for a while, but the union shut that down. The maximum allowable rate per our contract is 150%. Thee union's position is that they'd rather have the company staff the airline properly, instead of enticing pay-hungry pilots to pick up more open time.
Forecast: Overcast with a chance of occasional premium pay opportunities this winter due to irregular operations.

We can’t have it both ways, a lot of open time means understaffing and that sucks for all reserve guys and even jr line holders as their days get completely twisted. I’d rather have a properly staffed airline vs being able to pick up 150% on all my off days, plus I don’t know about you but after a 4 day 22 leg trip last thing I want to do is fly on my day off. The money would be nice but my sanity takes priority

As was mentioned, it is slim pickings. I try to usually pick up a day trip or two just to bump up guarantee a little bit. Especially since I am sitting on airport reserve this month and barely getting used.
