Any New Horizon News?

Are upgrades over there still years and years? What does the new Q400s mean for pilot staffing?

Not many upgrades right now. Junior captains in Q200 are 6 years. Due to most of the Q200's leaving, don't expect any upgrades. 7 year guys are transitioning to Q400 captain right now. Mostly transition training right now. 4 Q400 new hires planned in July. I don't think there is much of a net increase in aircraft planned right now, maybe only 2?

From what I have heard there is supposed to be Q2 upgrades running for another class or 2. Mostly I think this is attrition and senior Q2 captains transtioning to the 400. I know that the SEA Q2 FO's have started there trans to the 400 and that mostly it is about a 1 to 1 trade for new aircraft vs retirement of the 200 fleet.

QX traditionally does not hire during the summer. They always try to utilize all the pilot group for summer flying. THis usually leaves them short by summers end. If you are looking to go there push hard now with your internal recs and such. If you dont get an interview now you may be waiting till August/Sept for a a call.

Good company that pays better than most regionals.
But Expect slow movement up the food chain. Junior captains are from about early to mid 01 hire dates.

Absolutely true. . .we are overstaffed with Q400 FO's right now. Transition training has been in full swing but there has been some delay in deliveries.

Sorry, it's a little hard to read, but here is the latest "official" plan. Looks like some serious growth to me.

The following table displays the currently anticipated fleet count for Horizon as of the end of each quarter in 2007 and as of December 31, 2008:

30-Jun-07 30-Sep-07 31-Dec-07 31-Dec-08
Horizon Air
Q200 23 20 17 12
Q400 32 33 33 33
CRJ-700 20 20 20 20

Total # of Aircraft: 75 73 70 65

Cappy,
Just remember though....You are gaining available seat miles and all of that jazz. Therefore your airline is growing and growing big! I remember when I was there they tried to tell me I would be a jet captain in 4-5 years. Everyone in my class was say, "Aww! That would be awesome!!!" Well they may be right. So far it has been a shade over 4 and I can say that at least I ave a chance...SOMEWHERE ELSE. Sad to say cause I really didi like it there. Just no movement. So I had to take some chances.
