Default Horizon Upgrade Time?

I was noticing on APC it says the person who upgraded to captain most recently was hired about six years ago. However, I heard from a friend (who has a friend who works for Horizon) that the upgrade time is actually quite a bit less than this.

I have an upcoming interview with Horizon, and am curious to know if anybody can provide a little insight on current upgrade time. I would expect it to be higher than most regionals, as I have heard folks tend make a career at Horizon rather than move on to majors.

Default Not a whole lot less than 6 years

I used to work at Horizon and I got the call for upgrade in 5 1/2 years back in May this year. The next upgrade class in the Dash 8 has people averaging 6 years seniority in it. I wouldn't expect a whole lot of change to that in the near future, it's a career company for a lot of people. Having said that, I enjoyed working there. It was a pretty good company with some good people. Good luck on the interview and PM me if you have any questions, I still have some friends there conducting the interviews.

And there is about 120 upgrades to go before it instantly drops by 1 1/2 years since there was no hiring after 9/11 for a while.

This was something I had wondered about. I was thinking that maybe due to majors starting to hire more, QX expanding the fleet a little, and limited hiring activity in recent years, the upgrade time might be coming down in the near future.

Of course, that's just speculation.

It might begin to take longer since they are expanding by going to bigger airplanes instead of more smaller ones. And lets not forget that Lynx most likely means that once the contract is up in DEN that those jets will be coming back to SEA.

For once I agree with skyhigh, dont think for a minute also that if someone comes in and bids routes that Alaska Air wont turn their backs on Horizon. I hope that doesnt happen as I have a lot of former coworks at Horizon, but I wouldnt be suprised. That is the trend of the industry

Hey man, I am Ex-Horizon too !! I liked the clean buildings and new planes but they treated the employees worse than a dog that had just made a mess in the living room and they offered low pay and slow upgrades. A career killer in my estimation.

Nobody knows when any contract will be done. Not even the negotiators. Judging by the current pace of things, it's going to be a while.

Well, they are coming back to PDX. Two in January, and the remaining 7 starting in September through December.
