Horizon questions
 

QX drivers, got a few questions for you.

1. How long are newhires sitting reserve for each airplane?

2. How long to hold any hardline?

3. Are newhires going into the Dash? Or all three airplanes?

I am a 15 year QX'r so I can't give you the scoop on a lot of new-hire questions you asked but I can tell you a few things. First, we hire into all three aircraft, the CRJ70, the Q400 and the Q200. We also hire into all three domiciles (yes three) KSEA, KPDX and KDEN (well, Denver if I got the identifier right?) The Denver deal is our Frontier (F9) contract flying gig, we call it the "country club" over here in PDX. As for sitting reserve, I'm sure all new hires will be doing some of that, but not a lot of sitting around, we use our crews pretty regularly. Great if you want to fly, bad if you prefer sitting airport reserve and not being used (as an aside you might want to have your head examined if the latter <grin>). Now as for how long you might expect to do that, who knows? I do know we are scheduled to add 12-16 new planes to our fleet by next year, most will be substituting Q400's for the Q200, but it's still early, if we find a place to fly the mini-whackers to we'll probably keep them and G-R-O-W! for a change, real growth, not this "add 4 extra seats to the formerly 70 seat Q400 and call the growth (yes I know it technically is..ASM's and all that..you know what I mean!)"
With all this "flux" going on no concrete times are valid. We are about to begin our second contract negotiations soon and this should prove "interesting". All in all I think this is a better time than later to seek employment here, it is a good company to work for, don't believe all the "talk" on the street, an no, I'm not the Chief pilot here although I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express the other night, <yuk yuk> Hope this helps?

Horizon and Air Wisconsin Mins
 

Anyone know if Horizon and Air Wisconsin's minimums are lower than what are posted on their website? I think they are posted at 1000 TT and 100 ME, but I heard some get in to Air Wisconsin at like 700 and 30 or so. Is that true? How bout Horizon hiring at times like that?

Thanks for the info. I did turn down an interview with QX last summer. I had a nice talk with Kim Powers and left open the option of resubmitting my resume at a later date. Basically, I wanted to see how things panned out at my current regional. It appear things aren't going well for us so maybe it's time to reconsider. I think QX is a good airline that offers stability.

In general, unless you are from a university like Purdue, ERAU, or UND, chances are pretty good that you'll be applying with times over a thousand.

Regarding QX hiring, what's the best way to get your resume into the hands of the people? I belong to Airline Apps.com, but is that the only way or the best way?

Another question for Horizon folks... I am just a few hours shy of 1000 TT, 275 multi, but only 30 or so hours actual. I just don't get much actual down here in Florida. I have heard that Horizon likes more actual than what I've got, some mouuntain flying etc. Anyone heard anything or know what they are looking for?

Which of the three bases at Horizon are most junior? If you have turbine time, will that increase the chances of getting either the CRJ 700 or Q400? Thanks...

Man Horizon is a sweat shop. Why would anyone want to go there unless they were sent by a court order? I spent two of the worst, most wasted years of my life there. You guys will be old men by the time you upgrade. You might as well go to Pinnicle.

Sweat shop? I have to disagree. I was there seven years and I don't think it was as bad as some people make it sound. Other than Skywest, I think QX is an OK step or career. They are both decent regionals with northwest bases.
