Hi all... I'm looking to get out of Endeavor's sinking ship ASAP and Alaska is where I'd ultimately like to end up, so I'm looking to jump over to Horizon.
I applied a few weeks ago, and got this reply...
"Thank you for expressing interest in the position of Pilot for Horizon Air (23788). Unfortunately, you have not been selected to continue on in the selection process. This is not a reflection on the quality of your credentials; but rather, it reflects the extremely high level of competition for this particular job."
I've been an FO at 9E for 7 years now. Aviation degree from WMU. No busted rides, no write-ups. Some absences, sure... but that's really it. So, I e-mailed them back asking what else I might do to improve my chances, and got almost the exact same reply, word for word.
I would never claim to be the absolute best candidate out there, but I think I've got the credentials at this point to get an interview, or at least an explanation as to why not.
Does anyone here know of a person I might be able to get in touch with over there that I can talk to about this? I haven't had any success so far. I'd really appreciate it.

Hey, congratulations and thanks for the news. I'm sure I'm missing something here, but how did you re-apply? I applied the first time through the Horizon Air job search website, and I just now tried starting again and it's kicking me back with a message that says I can't re-apply because I already have an application submitted.

CAUTION: This is something that was not told to recent new-hires. There is an approximate wait of 5-7 weeks for IOE. At this wait, you are on training pay which is horrid at the regional level to make ends meet. We had one individual resign awaiting IOE due to this financial hardship. He resigned, attended ground school and sim at the new carrier before he was called for IOE at QX!!!! Folks here are awesome, but finances are finances with the current "shortage".....

7 weeks is on the quick end of finishing an initial ground school and sim. That would mean this individual went straight from sims at QX right into ground school at the next place where training pay was most likely right around the same give or take a few hundred. Something doesn't add up....

5-7 weeks off with pay and travel bennies sounds like a good time to me... Yes, you still have reserve days so the whole thing isn't "off"...
If it's that much of an issue, spend your time making money on the side somehow. To base an air carrier decision on a few weeks of inconvenience seems like a bad idea. That is, unless the person didn't really want to work at QX in the first place...

Okay guys I am currently in the process of applying to Horizon but I am missing a few simple things that would help. Who is the HR manager or the Director of Ops. Im looking for somebody to address my cover letter to so i dont have to use the typical "to whom it may concern" that looks tacky to me.
Also I am from Boise and would LOVE to move back home. From reading it seems that its very possible to get this as an initial base upon hiring since it is pretty low on the seniority list of bases. any input?
I have just under 1800 hours. I was flight instructing until about 1300. Since then I have been flying single pilot IFR in Colorado doing cargo runs. Sums up about 500 hours of multi piston PIC time. Am I very competitive applying to Horizon?
